 | Bite the bullet and hire a guy. I'm sure you can find an out of work actor to do it for cheap. And if he's hot, bonus!

Even with materials, even for an old house with issues, $12k seems like an awful lot...
 | I don't remember if that included paint, but it definitely included the other materials. We got several bids for the work, and they were all in the same neighborhood. The issue was all the hand-painting of woodwork (it's all painted), including new cabinetry in the dining room, bathroom and hall, lots and lots of doors and windows with big moldings around them, baseboards, picture rail in almost every room, and banisters/railings.

Unfortunately doing it myself was not an option, because I was pregnant.

 | Unless you'll need a whole bunch of coats or have an ENORMOUS kitchen, one gallon should suffice. I have a medium-sized kitchen with 9 1/2 foot ceilings, did 3 coats and still only needed a gallon.

Careful, the beverage you are about to enjoy is extremely hot.
P.S. If you are this coworker, shut the fuck up or I'll douse you with a beverage I would have enjoyed.
 | The answer to this question is that you are both boring.
