What about y'all? Priceless episodes of favorite shows that you keep on your Tivo for those long lazy weekends?
|
Aqua Teen Hunger Force -- Total Re-Carl (The one with the futuristic toilet -- "So it's kinda like that movie Predator, only instead of hunting people he's crapping...")
Sealab -- Craptastic Voyage (I'm not Stormy, I'm "He Who Smokes Bitches!")
ATHF -- Revenge of the Trees (Flash-fried cow and cheese!)
Not on TiVo, but one of the kids just got the 1st 2 seasons of Scooby-Doo Where Are You? on DVD -- classic stuff.

Sebastian might have stretched a little, but the underlying point is well-taken. If I listed my 5 favorite bands there wouldn't be any "extras" in them. no horns no keyboards. Certainly there have been songs where bands have effectively used each, but overall I think not. Of course he limited it to punkish rock. He doesn't mean soul. i mean you guy's will be challenging him on Jazz bands next.

Only if Steely Dan is a jazz band. Or Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.
But Sebby's already made his feelings clear about theose guys -- I actually figured that he might like Earth Wind & Fire.

Wasn't the dude who founded BALCO formerly the bassist or something in Tower of Power?

Actually, he did not limit it to "punkish rock." His statement said "bands." You cannot even read a "punkish rock" limitation into his statement since it was made in the context of describing the Rolling Stones, who are not "punkish" rock. They are much more based in R&B, and to argue that no R&B-based band has ever used horns effectively is, as I noted before, remarkable even for Sebastian.

Alas, Sebastian's case is not the weakest i have advocated this long week.
He didn't limit "bands" explicitedly, but he did refer to two bands whose early work would put them firmly in the playlist of most radio stations that play "alternative" or whatever you want to call it. The early Stones got caught peeing on gas station walls. They were punkish at first.
I am comfortable with his statement, althought, as i noted it is admitedly a bit overbroad. As to the examples of "good horn bands" that have been raised, I do believe it safe to say that sebastian was not including Steely Dan in his definition of bands. Hell Doc Severison was cool too and he even played a horn.

Hank, your arguments have skipped over inane and gone straight to ridiculous. You know and I know it. So, as much as I would like to see you explain how Little Feat is "punkish," I am instead going to pretend that you had the good sense to end your last post with the above-quoted sentence.
