I've had no less than 3 or 4 co workers I know drop dead suddenly for various reasons....you become desensitized and less human. I'm not sure what I'd do. deal with, I suppose.
You are a pillar of strength.

You really need to shut up, in general, but specifically about this topic.

The nerve. Didn't they think about the people who had to pick up the slack?

Did you see the Dateline about the woman in Texas who fooled all of her family and friends into believing she had cancer? Instead of going to cancer treatment, she would go tanning or to the gym. Her friends paid for trips for her, did fundraisers for her family and generally got all worked up, but then they started wondering when she never started to look sick or anything. Turns out she wasn't sick. She even told her husband and her kids she was dying.

In summary, as far as I know most of these so-called cancer patients are just scam artists, looking for a quick buck. Dateline tells me so. But if the ones that you have worked with actually died, at least you can feel better about the fact that they weren't just milking the system.

Well, according to the atty that she works with [my friend] the atty feels those people SHOULD NOT be working at a law firm.

I was just making a point that he was unsympathetic not I.

And I know I sound like a jerk but I really am fatigued. you cannot have a convo with anyone here without that seeping into the convo. "Hi how is your day" "well my mom's dying of cancer" I feel like I get hit in the gut.

Lastly, she told me [my friend] that story that way so obviously she feels it....not me. I have no horse in that race I just thought how he reacted was a tad insensitive.

Step away from the keyboard and do something else for an hour or two. Seriously. You don't want to post here for the rest of the afternoon.

I'm with ABBA and all the rest of the folks here that think you are way out of line on this one.

You've made it clear that you have never lost anyone to a horrible illness.

You're lucky. Now stop poking at those of us who have.

Look, let's (sp?) not beat around the bush here. While there may be some exceptions (hi Gwink), most ERISA attys are the outcasts of the outcasts that make up the legal profession. They band together because no one else wants to be near them or associated with them. I can't believe you made me have to post this. Now I look like the bad guy. Time for more pot.
