It's easy to say wit alone makes a woman pretty, but let's see you back that up with a penile plethysmograph test. Smart money says you can't.

I would like to know who is responsible for the myth that this film is funny? It totally is not.
Which is not to say that I can't see how one could appreciate it on a sappy christmas movie level, but otherwise, it sucked.

I HAD to see that, being burdened with a gaggle of young'uns. You, an adult, CHOOSE to see it?

The knocks against Sideways,in particular among some on this board, and generally amongst critics, are (respectively) that (a) it's probably overly pretentious with wine references, and therefore it must suck, and (b) it's a movie that appeals to overeducated wine snobs, and because most movie critics fit that demographic, of course they'll like it.
Saw the movie this weekend. Gattigap's verdicts:
(a) Untrue
(b) Who cares?
It's that good. Anyone who likes wine, or California wine country (albeit Southern CA wine country) should see this movie*. Beyond the sense of place, the movie possesses great timing, wonderful dialogue and excellent acting.
Thomas Hayden Church moves beyond the sitcom, and on occasion can actually act. Giamatti, admittedly, specializes in playing complicated losers, but this role is the one on which he'll look back fondly, because he'll not find a better one than this. Virginia Madsen possesses the New Atticus Ratio, and is entirely bangable.
If the Alan Funk/Candid Camera FB Extravaganza does not occur for whatever reason, I hereby invite all FBers to do the tour of Santa Ynez Valley. Ty, I'll even drive.
Gatti(because she's right: it DOES taste sooo fucking good.)gap
* Of course, if you hate wine, stay the fuck away from it. Watch Attack on Precinct 13 or some shit where they probably swill liquor in between bullets.

OK, I'm in. Does this have something to do with unshaved grapes? I'm so confused . . . .

The movie's take on wine snobs is ironic enough that other people can enjoy laughing at them.
In Assault on Precint 13, the characters drink liquor. Unfortunately, they don't drink it while it's on fire.

I took a lot of shit, as a Browns fan, from Steelers fans all season. Hey, the Browns fucking sucked. I knew, they knew it, they continually rubbed it in. Week after week as Big Ben and team kept on fucking winning.
Last week, I heard from several of them about how "traumatic" and "nausiating" the game was with the Jets. How hard the game was to watch. And each Steelers fan, to the last one, had to ask me, "So, what do you think will happen against the Pats next weekend?"
"Well," I replied, with the smug superiority that only a Browns fan (or, for that matter, any Cleveland sports team fan (hi Spooky!))can have, "if Rothlisberger doesn't play any better next week, they are gonna get their asses kicked."
God I love to be fucking right. Especially when its watching the Pittsburgh FUCKING Steelers choke yet again during the big game.
FUCK YOU PITTSBURGH! HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!
