No. And a return question: Is this why the kid named "Sue" in Swingers was packing?

Really I am
A propos of nothing, I'm getting quite tired of this witch hunt for plagarizers.

I don't take shit from bullies, and try and defend those who are getting ganged up on. You fight for what is yours, and for what it right. All lessons learned on the playground, as strange of a concept that is. I can't believe how much of that trival crap affected my character and personality.
And my kids, and your kids and most everyone's kids will also have to go through it and learn in their own way, growing up can be tough. My point is this, if I can give my kid one thing less to worry about, why wouldn't I do it? Why pour it on? To build extra character? To see if he/she can hack it? This is my kid, don't I wan't to protect them as much as I can?
And though you were halfway kidding, I bet that most of the serial killers and whatnot were probably picked on at school and are forever trying to make others pay for that.
Anyway, just something to consider.

YOU worry too much. One less thing for your KID to worry about? Come on. If you think that way, you won't know when to stop removing obstacles for him or her.
I take my kid to the playground every weekend. It amazes me how many pansy ass parents won't let their kids experience what they will be experiencing soon enough when they aren't around. All I hear from these parents is, "Don't let him use that, that's yours," and "Hey! My daughter was going to get in that swing, she was headed right for it and YOU ran ahead of her!" or "Don't run, you might fall down!" I'm not implying that my kid is a bully (quite the contrary -- my child hands toys over to other kids when they come and try to snatch them and I let it happen because why rush the idea of "mine mine mine" -- but I digress).
To sum up: If you like the name, give them the name. Spending time trying to figure out which life experience your child should have or avoid shouldn't start before the little fucker is even born. But I'm a learn-as-you-go kind of guy.

I remember exactly where I was. It was as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.

Whoa whoa whoa. I don't have any kids, and I certainly don't stay up all night planning the rest of their lives for them, nor do I presume to think that I can mold their life experience through the force of my will. What I don't understand is why people would want to name their kids something stupid. It seems to me that that's more about the parents' egos than the kid. If you want to name your kid Eustace and Picayne, you are more than welcome to. I just don't see why.

And his career, not quite as tragically, around 1985.

Maybe because the parents are stupid and their stupidity prevents them from knowing any better. Didja ever think of that smart guy? Did you ever think that you are lucky to have an IQ in double digits but not all of these poor slobs, on this board or otherwise, are so lucky.
There but for the grace of Zoroaster and a lack of stupidity go you. You should be a little more humble and a lot more thankful.

Moo
Reincarnating a thread from last year, yesterday's Washington Post had an extensive article, indeed an exposé, of the NJ Guido culture.
A choice excerpt:
"The summer months give shape and meaning to [Anthony] Moussa's life. This is when he parties hardest, staying up to see the dawn. This is when he comes to the Jersey Shore with his buddies and fixes his hair and hits the nightclubs and admires the girls, again and again tipping back the sweet, fruity shot he calls life.
This is when Anthony Moussa achieves the fullest expression of his guido self. This is when he becomes The Moo."

No harm, no foul. FWIW, fyi, for the record, my name is pretty average (my parents were not stupid...well, not that stupid), but I felt badly for Thurgreed, Flower and some of other "Sues" on the board, whom you were inadvertantly insulting.

Although, I would agree that it is arguable in many cases, I think I'll still respond to this by saying that some people probably think names you think are stupid are not.
