Once true, but no longer. BMWs have stability control that does an excellent job, even on the RWD only models. If you have snow, get snow tires, and you're set except in really deep snow (in which case anything sporty will suck). But how much snow do they get in Stockton?

Subject to balty's responses to my questions on the gadgets board, I'll tentatively answer 6-spd Mazda RX-8 in titanium gray, black leather, grand touring package and nav system MSRP with options and destination at $33,200; dealer invoice $30,341. Another view here.

BMW X5, Mercedes M-Class, or any of the many Hondas built in the US.

Sebby, I've owned a Saab, and liked it lots, but I don't like what GM is doing to them, aesthetically speaking. The old 9-3s were good-looking -- the new ones are feh.
BRC's poll (assuming money is some object, which it is, and sticking to new cars):
BMW 325i
Audi A4
VW Passat
VW Jetta TDI
Honda Civic hybrid
Infiniti G35

Oh, I forgot about the whole GM thing. I wonder of the SAABs I like are pre or post GM...
The Infinity M45 is uglier than sin, but has a rocket engine.
Try the Benz C-Class also. I think there's a Kompressor version which is supposed to be a very high performance car.
That little Lexus is supposed to be a great car also. A you get a great sound system in any Lexus.
VW? Buy American. They lose value at the same rate.
Why buy new? You can get som much cheap good used iron in this economy.

Barbie Trauma
What the fuck is with clothes this season? Every single goddamned thing in the stores for women is pink. Baby pink, strawberry pink, blinding bimbo Barbie pink. Does any female over the age of six really want to look like a pack of fucking Bubble Yum? Why aren't there any other colors? Why does every perfectly slinky black or cocoa shirt have to have pink polka dots on it? Has June Cleaver's moldering body come back to haunt every single damned designer on the planet? What are those of us who are a soft peach color supposed to do, besides go Lady Godiva or clash heinously with our clothes?
Six stores and two hours after a pointless attempt to buy a couple of simple body-hugging t-shirts that did not make me look like a Barbie girl in a Barbie world and I was ready to attack every window display like a rabid animal with a bucket of Rit. What the hell is wrong with buyers this year?

Disagree. We have several brand new beemers in the neighborhood, and we sort of love them, as they are a great way to get to know your neighbors. Periodically, we get together to help push them up the owners' slightly inclined driveways.

Ixnay on the ClassM-a. Part of the reason Mercedes' reliability ratings have dropped in recent years is that those wacky German engineers keep dropping doodads into the new models (like the M-Class in particular) that don't hold up.
The E-class is a good choice, but I don't know if it would match Ty's style well. I think he needs a CLK convertible in order to enjoy the sunny days in SF and pick up the chicks.

The CLK is a big-time chick car, and I say that as someone who has just posted a picture of a Mazda.
Speaking of sunny California, the past three days in SF have made me feel sorry for the rest of y'all. My cabdriver was complaining about the oppressive heat --- it was 77. She said she notices more nuisance honking when it goes about 75.

I bought two pink shirts and a pink pair of capri's yesterday. I think they look cute.

Hell, if you're going to get a CLK convertible, just buy a used SL 500 and save about $10k, while getting waaay more car.
I want the S 600 in black, with black interior. Its like a fast, tight, safe, demonic looking living room on wheels. The difference between the pick up on the 500 and 600 explains the huge price jump. Two different worlds.

My choices:
Mini cooper
VW beetle
Audi A4
Audi TT
Prius
Porsche Boxter
and if the aliens could wait for another six months
the Escape Hybrid

make your own clothes. It's not that hard. Why let someone else tell you what to wear?
