I enjoyed Pirates of the Caribbean a great deal, but i wouldn't call that one a pure "kids" flick.

but if we are tlaking flicks, I resaw Mulholland Drive this weekend and I think that is the singularly creepiest flick I have ever seen. Not in small part due to that little cabaret with the lady lipsynching Crying in spanish. haunting shit.

I thought Nemo was pretty damn funny.

And Shrek is pretty good too.

I thought it was the worst piece of shit I have ever seen and it's a little creepy that one would watch it more than once. I mean, voluntarily, without being forced at gunpoint and all.

I really Liked Who Framed Roger Rabbit and I loved Finding Nemo. I actually bought the DVD this weekend and I have no kids.

I don't want to have to wade through all the ... whatever they talk about over there to get to it. So, since I was asking specifically about adult-appropriate movies that also happen to be kid acceptable, I vote that it stays here.

Oh, in the rental category, "Walking with prehistoric beasts" - the whole series - is fabulous. Not really for kids per se, but totally kid appropriate - particularly when they get to that stage, like my cousin did, of memorizing the names of 4 dozen types of dinosaurs and boring the shit out of everyone with it. The Mr. and I bought some of them ourselves after seeing them on Discovery.

I may need to give this film another look, but I was unimpressed by the movie as a whole. When I saw it in the theater, the audience laughed at the end, and not in a good way. Sure, the film had its moments, but so do many car commercials. The movie was just a confused (not confusing), jumbled mess.

I liked "Babe" too, but Disney's old Jungle Book (cartoon version with all the great singin) is something I watched with my niece like 20 times way back when. Never regretted a single viewing.

Good Question -- Off the top of my head, I'd say:

Toy Story 2, which I thought was better than the original, though I'm not sure I could verbalize why.

I enjoyed Holes, though this is really better for older kids.

And, not really a kid's movie, but I can't think of too much in "The Princess Bride" that I wouldn't allow my kids to see, and that's close to being a classic, in my mind.

Edited to add: So far, the Harry Potter movies have been very good.

Well, the question was posed, interestingly enough, by a lawyer w/o kids. I think that pretty much answers your point on that issue.

As to Mulholland Drive, I don't think it's a very good movie for kids at all. Too much sex and violence, and the resolution of conflict in the end was completely lacking.

I wouldn't let my children see it. But thanks for playing.

The movie can best be summed up as on object lesson. Not even David Lynch should be given large amounts of money and psychotropic drugs at the same time.

Hello. I'm back from my travel induced hiatus. For your info, because I know you care, I will share the prurient details of the PenskeFest 2003 pre-fest run-up and the big evening itself.

First, fyi, fwiw, for the record, the event was actually [insertmyreallifenicknamehere]Fest 2003. But [insertmyreallifenicknamehere] is outable.

So anyhoo, here's the recap:

Wednesday: Dinner and drinks with old boss. And then in honour of PenskeFest, I indulged in strippers and booze, engaging in my first ever lapdance marathon. Interesting stuff.

Thursday: FabUlous dinner and some nice wine with the most excellent and generous Chicago GA hosts TaxWonk and Aloha Mr. Learned Hand. Wonk is an indeed a most refined gastronome and his esteemed reputation got us to the head of the line at a great Eye-talian ristorante. Mangia indeed! FWIW, because I know you are wondering, there were no GA hookups. Both of the locals claim they are saving themselves for Less. NTTAWWT.

Friday: Two nights of food and drink and the impending dawning of the day of PenskeFest (saturday) and I need a rest. So I blow off the pests who want me to go out for "just one drink" and order room service. But wait, who says metrosexuality is dead.......I also order a Tranquility Bath from the bath sommelier. A relaxing chammomile infused bubble bath, classical music, cucumber slices for my tired eyes, mineral water and a glass of Merlot. An hours hot soak and the bottle of Cab that I had with dinner put me in a sleepy coma for the next 11 hours.

Saturday: PENSKEFEST 2003! A most excellent time was had by all. My first taste of 2003's Anchor Steam Christmas Ale on tap. Big spicy Syrah and then, proving that the lessons of the late 80s have been completely wiped from my memory, I hit a late night bar from 3-5 and drank Absolut on the rocks. Bottom line, a guy wearing a skirt, commando style, in Chicago, at bars, gets a lot of attention from the women, including but not limited to at least 3 propositions. Check January's issue of Chicago magazine for a pic of me in a skirt with a Scandanavian MILF!

Next it's on to New York to see how they deal with a skirted dude.

Sunday: Hungover. Big Tyme.

For those interested PenskeFest 2004 may be held in January.

Apropos of nothing, I was watching football yesterday and saw the Miller Lite "Human Dominoes" commercial for the first time. Has anyone else seen this? It's brilliant. I was sitting in the room with several other people who were having a conversation while it was on. Everybody abruptly stopped to watch because I was laughing so hard. Why is it that most of the best ads I've ever seen are for beer? Then again, so have some of the worst. (AND TWEENNNS!)
