Why now?
Someone writes to Wonkette:
- [The MSNBC] bubble-headed daytime anchor mentioned the news [about Tenet] and turned to the analyst and said, "This comes out of the blue." Well, sure, maybe if you haven't been reading the papers for the last 3 years. . .

okay. but i'll need your help.
you said "he couldn't have taken out OBL or the Afghan camps as they trained 20k jihadis because it would have hurt his poll numbers."
If I can use this, i can make the argument. but first, do you need to change anything in my quote

What happens when a majority wants to elect Hamas?

Oooh, oooh, I know how this turns out. In a poorly-lit German restaurant, Josh secretly meets with a representative of the Palestinian PM who says a new era has arrived requiring secret, direct peace talks and an end run around the Chairman, who is corrupt and now lacks legitimacy to lead the PA. It's a back channel overture! So Josh --- who's a fish out of water, this being a foreign policy matter, it's real funny, trust me --- conveys this to a particularly sour Leo, who advises the President it's all a waste of time; there's no one at the PA worth talking to; and an end run around the Chairman will close the wrong doors. (He wants airstrikes on some militants instead; he's pissed because Hamas blew up a bus or something. Anyhoo, it's personal.) Meanwhile, Kate (NSC aide) tells the President it's worth a shot. The President sides with Kate and shuts Leo down. But it turns out --- and here's the kicker --- the PM stabs the US in the back by publicly announcing the talks with the Chairman even before the US has agreed to them, putting the US on shaky ground with Israel. We've been played! But the President doesn't know this yet because he was walking down a noisy corridor at Camden Yards when the call came in to Leo.
Say what you will about television news; it's surprisingly detailed. It's also true what they say --- nobody gets anything done in D.C. during the summer.

Sorry, that's not why he didn't take out OBL or the Afghan camps. We had no good way to attack those camps. We lacked decent intelligence about where OBL was at any given time. Even our efforts to hit OBL with cruise missiles were frustrated by the Taliban-sympathetic elements in Pakistan's military and intelligence service. Without bases in a neighboring country, we had no way to project other forces there.
Wait -- are you talking about Clinton's poll numbers or Bush's? Because what you said applies equally between 1/01 and 9/01.

So you'll give back those earlier wins you claimed, like Michigan had to after it turned out that Webber and Traylor didn't buy those SUVs with their leftover meal money?

I'm not sure this will get a fair sampling. most people who are against gay marriage probably have some fear of digital cameras.

point of clarification: in late '02, when the episode aired naming the "Bartlett doctrine" as " we will invade a soverign country for no immediate reason, if given how we think it seems right;"
Were use opposed?

He wasn't President in '92, dumbass, he was Governor of Dartmouth or something. That's what you get watching Fox News, Hank --- total misinformation.

No decent understanding of such things here, unless you find a way to graft Mateen Cleaves' jawline onto that avatar of yours.

Dunno about AG, but I was for it. But my recollection is that Bartlet got the full blessing and cooperation of the TV UN up front back in '02. I think Werner Klemperer played the German ambassador, and they CGIed a Disorderly Orderly-era Jerry Lewis as the French delegate.
