I am going to purchase something off Amazon (B&N doesn't have it -- sniff -- that's where I get a discount. -- those bastards...), and I think there's some code you can put in so that some proceeds to to lawtalkers.
Then again, I may be hallucinating. What with the 420 and all that cool-kid stuff.

If you use this link to get into Amazon, some of the proceeds of your purchase will go to Lawtalkers.

Yeah but unlike her, your father wasn't running around trying to have women's pussies sewn shut.

Stupid Party Question
I am planning our first party at our new digs.
In addition to the usual suspects, I want to invite our neighbors from our floor and those immediately below us.
Since I don't know anyone's full name, do I simply deliver a handwritten "please join us" invitation to each door?

That's what my next-door-neighbor did when she first moved into the neighborhood. I thought it was quite nice.

Secondly, and more importantly, why does Eminem call himself "Slim Shady"?

I suspect the name derives from the fact that he's pretty skinny and used to indulge in shady activities. Now, I think he mostly rolls around in piles of hundred dollar bills.

Yes, and if nothing else it reduces the likelihood that a curmudgeonly neighbor will call the police to complain about the noise.

I have heard some pretty stupid party questions in my day. But this one was by far the stupidest.

What does 420 mean? There are varying theories on the origin of 420. Some say that 420 originated from a police code that announces marijuana use is taking place. Yet another story is that a group of guys (Waldo's) in the 1970's made 4:20 their official meeting time to smoke marijuana after school. Whether or not 4:20 p.m. is the best time of day for your first hit depends on your own body, your own needs. Some folks feel that waiting until 4:20 enhances ones appreciation of the herb. Of course, your mileage may vary.
In the 21st Century, 420 is firmly established as a code amongst tokers, a time of day and even sort of a toker's New Year's Day. It's in our culture now and only time will tell where it ends up.
April 20th (4/20) is another usage, meaning that it is time for to plant before the summer.
|
4/20 was the date of the Columbine school shootings; it was also Adolf Hitler's birthday. Rock radio station KROQ in Los Angeles has their annual "smoke-out" concert on April 20, usually somewhere in the 909. Of course, that's the same station that ends each Friday's morning show with a sing-along chorus of "Don't Bogart That Joint, My Friends."
420/24-7/365 yo. Puff puff give.

Damn Studio Lawyers
Way to kill the board Str8.
Colin Farrell news
Colin Farrell stars as American colonist John Smith in “The New World,” and 14-year-old Q’Orianka Kilcher plays Pocahontas. The flick is said to be "slavish" to period detail and the love scene between the two was “in good taste,” according to a defender, but when studio lawyers for the film saw an early cut, according to a report, “they nearly had a heart attack.”
“Farrell was told to get romantic and sensual but knew there was a certain amount of kissing involved,” a source told the British mag The People. “He played the scene brilliantly and he really put Q’Orianka at her ease. But when the lawyers saw the finished product with Colin and Q’Orianka rolling around on the ground kissing they just flipped out.” The lawyers were concerned about child-pornography laws, and a tamer version of the scene was reportedly re-shot.
14's a bit young. Unless she's really really hot, it would seem creepy to be kissing on a 14 year old.
And even if she was really really hot - it's creepy.

My Oscar dream

Personally, I like "Only A Woman" -- the Alan Jackson-type Bruckheimer-movie-song-parody, that plays during the love scene between Gary and Lisa.
Watch for the unrated director's cut puppet love scene when Team America comes out on DVD. Not for the faint of heart.

Looks like Team America got snubbed, even in the Animated Feature category. Passion was only nominated for Cinematography. I'm surprised that Control Room didn't get nominated for Documentary Feature.
My Oscar Predictions (with the warning that I have seen none of these films):
BEST PICTURE - The Aviator
BEST DIRECTOR - Scorsese
BEST ACTOR - Jamie Foxx
BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR- Morgan Freeman
BEST ACTRESS - Hilary Swank
BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS - Natalie Portman
BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY - Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY - Sideways
BEST OF THE REST - Who cares
Nominees here.

Trip Query
Way to break the board, NFH.
So where would you go if you had just a quick 3 day weekend in February, your starting point was on the West Coast and upcoming vacation opportunities were scarce? My potential list so far:
Cabo
Vegas
Santa Barbara
Catalina (is there much to do there?)
Don't bother with ski trip destinations. We don't swing that way.
ETA: No, it is not the weekend of the lavish Shavedornot Ball, so that's not an option.

My old roommate's brother is in the Secret Service. They are not allowed to interfere (like when the underage Bush girls go to bars) or tell Mom and Dad what they were up to.

Ketchup
WTF – Restrictor plates on treadmills? The treadmills at the hotel health club won’t go faster that 4.5 mph. Thank god they haven’t disabled the incline function.
Agreeing with TM - I love ABC’s Extreme Home Makeover.
College Hoops - OU v. OK St. last night. What a game! The combo of Gray and Bookout in the first half was very entertaining.
Disagreeing with TM and Agreeing with Diane - About Schmidt – I liked it. A movie about an average guy, and his average life. I thought Nicholson was very good. It was the silence that was so powerful, the lack of dialogue and action that created the mood. Jack usually annoys me, since his characters always seem to be over the top, but I liked him in this movie. I could have done without the Kathy Bates nude scene. <shiver>
Friendly advice - don't stay in a hotel where there is a conference of Evangelical Christians taking place. On one hand, there is no one in the bar, on the other hand you get dirty looks when you walk out and get to overhear lots of conversations about biblical verses in the elevator. Too bad I forgot most of the liberal knowledge I had about the Old Testament. Sarah and Ruth had a lot to say back in the day.

How about recreating the wine trip from Sideways? Wouldn't that be fun?
