No thinking person questions the NYT here. Sure it potentially killed a really important source of information to fight people that might blow up the NYT building someday- but so what! the NYT is the hero! because publishing the information was really really important since it served the purpose of ,........, ummmmm. well I've got the purpose written here somewhere. Anyway, there shouldn't be secrets!

Sure, because al Qaeda believed that they could use US banks to transfer funds like normal folks who never do anything wrong and so have nothing to worry about, and the Feds would never ever even THINK they would do that, and never ever monitor bank accounts!!

The people who have their panties twisted over this are idiots. This is the nonissue of the year.

Allow me, Herr Schickelgruber. It's "reminding us all that we live in a police state controlled by unaccountable Jesus freaks, right-wing morons, jackbooted thugs and the assorted ass-lickers, lackeys, hacks and toadies who love them." We need to be reminded of this as often as possible, lest we get ideas.

Why is it that liberals all call censorship when they are simply being asked, not requested, to act sensibly. We are at war, so why do they find it necessary to give aid and comfort to the enemy. What possible good did that leak do.

They have the right to leak that information, but I have the right to boycott them if they do.

can the Government do anything as a secret or do we need a plebiscite every time. Because it sounds like every t was crossed and every i dotted on this one- congress informed and the program only used when a direct aq tie shown-

or maybe your macro is still set for the phone tapping?

Oh and congrats- you've made the first post dumber than SHP's parallel!

Your sarcasm is just pathetic considering that they had already caught terrorists using the method you could never work. So clearly "Al Queda believed that they could use US Banks to transfer funds". But actually it was international bank transfers that no one has any right of privacy over and this sort of tracking is key to the war on Terror.

So, lemme get this straight:

1) Leaking location of CIA secret detention centers - ok
2) Leaking foreign phone surveilance techniques - ok
3) Leaking bank tracing techniques - ok
4) Refuting Joe Wilson's lies by tying him to Valerie Plame - treason

I don't suppose it's occurred to you that the story being reported was not that the Feds were looking at Al Queda's banking records, but that they were looking indiscriminately at anybody's banking records they chose? I don't know about you, but I don't think it's any of Uncle Sam's fucking business what I pay for cable every month, and I object to any activity that allows them to ostensilby do just that without having to tell me about it.

DOJ has been investigating the leaks of all of those programs to identify who within the government leaked them.

Do you believe that nothing is private except where expressly provided for by statute or constitutional protection?
