I love Better Off Dead, but I remember it more as an example of cross-cultural understanding than for the ski scenes.
My favorite football movie is Necessary Roughness, the Major League of football movies. I also like Any Given Sunday for the speed of the game.

Jersey? um, no. And they said "pond hockey" a lot which makes me horny.
I hate the fucking Rangers.

I own a copy of Mystery, Alaska too.
Though my copy of The Cutting Edge probably kicks me out of the club.

Lest one get too good an impression of Mattress Mack, it is worthy of note that he is bestest of buddies with Chuck Norris, and has bankrolled at least one of Chuck's films and (I think) Walker, Texas Ranger, a program that may have done more damage to the people of Texas than the profits of a thousand furniture stores can make right.
Still, the charity work does seem to point to him being a genuinely nice guy.

Real Parry? Any relation to this guy?
Hey, that's the second time I've gotten to use that one!

That's okay. Gwinky still accepts me even though I own a copy of Slap Shot 2 so I think we can forgive you for the Cutting Edge.
You do like Sudden Death, right?

Stoked: The Rise and Fall of Gator, though it is a documentary (and not quite a Gleaming the Cube), is one of the better skateboarding movies. It shows the darkside of skateboarding that was hinted at but glossed over in the more upbeat (but still excellent) Dogtown and Z-Boys.
Has anyone seen Step into Liquid? It is being hailed as the best surfing movie ever. This is difficult to swallow after seeing Blue Crush.
If they show it on espn is it a sport? If so, Spellbound would have to be included on the list of best movies about spelling bees.

And to tie threads, he was in Sidekicks, a martial arts movie, starring Chuck Norris.

Bachelorette to wed
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,103319,00.html
"Their wedding will be broadcast on ABC in December, the finale of three episodes dealing with the preparations and their "bachelor" and "bachelorette" parties. "
"Sutter, chosen by Rehn from 25 suitors, said he plans to return to his job as a firefighter in Vail, Colo., in January. He wasn't sure what his bride would be doing."
Doesn't know what his bride will be doing when he returns to Colorado? Can we make any more of a joke out of marriage in this country?

Winner in the category: Best Player From a Team That Sucks
NEW YORK (AP) -- Alex Rodriguez became the second player from a last-place team to win a Most Valuable Player award, then confirmed that the Texas Rangers have approached him about a possible trade.
How does that happen? Doesn't part of being a valuable player require that you caused your team to win games?
[Yes, I hate baseball and discussions about baseball, but today is already on record as the boringest day ever, so this should seal the deal.]

Barely, E/O, you know I've got nothing but love in my heart for you two. But I've got to tell you the truth about "Better Off Dead." It sucked.
Sure, it had some funny quotes, and the best use of Curtis Armstrong* with the exceptions of "Risky Business," "Moonlighting," and, uh, the first "Revenge of the Nerds." But there was just some really stupid shit in that movie. The Claymation interlude at the burger shop? The rocket launching out of the garage at the end? Ricky's mom blowing up? All of the scenes with Lane's mom, esp. the one with the Christmas outfits? Pure shit.
This is one '80s comedy that does not stand repeated watching.
*Younger board members might not know this man, but he's the guy who made Jeremy Piven's career possible.
