Sharpova is cute as hell and she's playing well, but Karatancheva's little green dress is really getting to me. Good thing I'm at home.

eta: Whoa. She's 15. Is that legal in Bulgaria?

question

I work with someone I like very much and who generally does not make grammatical/word choice errors. However, at least 3 times in the last couple weeks she has massively mispronounced a word (actually, she's leaving out an entire syllable of it). Is there anything I can do in a nice way to correct her? She's pretty thick-skinned, but.

I used to have a friend who pronounced the word "distraught" dis-traunt. And she was distraunt all the fucking time.

I waited until I wasn't her friend any more and then I made fun of her.

Does that help?

Use the word correctly with a third party when she is in hearing range.

Alternatively, next time she uses it say "oh, is that how it is pronounced? I didn't know." If she isn't dense she'll check.

Did you make fun of her to her face, or just behind her back?

choc-lut. I'm not a freaky enunciator. I hate those people.

Part of the reason I notice her mistake is because I used to make it.

re: DS's -- I will have to use it correctly because I couldn't do the other with a straight face to this person.

No. They're either doing it on purpose, or don't get it. Either way, there's no graceful way of correcting it, as it's probably ingrained. I used to work with a woman who always said Expresso. I said, it's espresso. She said, whatever. That never changed.

Also, the phrase is, "for shits and grins." She would actually say to customers, "well, just for chagrins, let's add up the figures." I told her that, chagrins is not what she thinks it means and the phrase is "for shits and grins." The answer, of course, was "whatever."
