Three questions:

(1) Why is the coffee so goddamn good in Italy (it's unbelievable)?
(2) Where can I get something like it in the States?
(3) How can I make it myself?

1.) the quality of their coffee and the water
2.) sorry, misread. okay not sure in NY but in Boston the North End. Cafe Vittorio.
3.) Try "Illy" espresso Megdalia del Oro is not as good. and that is phonetically spelled too lazy to google that. Lavazza may only make machines but if they roast espresso it is sure to be good.

much like your lawfirm, you're only allowed to stay here to sift through the chaff and find the wheat for those whose time is more valuable than yours- put a post it at the point where you're at in that crate of email records you're revieving and do the search for your betters.

Signs point to "yes." And to bitter disappointment in four years, for the reason pony mentions. He's got a built-in excuse if he can't take the U.S. to the next level.

Myself, I'd like to see the U.S. hire Hiddink.

And for Klinsmann to stay with the Germans, who will only get better.

But how ya' gonna keep 'em down in Karlsruhe after he's seen O.C.?

If only Uday Hussein had lived, I would have liked him to be at least an assisitant coach- I know the US squad would have played harder if they knew he'd be running practice the day after elimination.

Upon reconsideration, if Sidd will pay me my OAA billing rate to sift through world cup babe pages, I'll take on the representation. I don't think conflicts are a problem. I do require a retainer up front, though.* A substantial one.

I think he has young daughters. The starting point might be where he and his wife want to raise them during the next four years. I'd bet the kids want to stay in California. He and his wife might want them to get more exposure to Germany for language/culture reasons.

Where his family is, one way or the other, is likely where he'll end up coaching.

When I was in Karlsruhe, at the tender age of 16, I found it hard to keep anything down because of an appendicitis attack at the Karlsruhe youth hostel. Fun stuff.

Early Str8 gambling story

I thought of this story this morning, had an internal chuckle, and decided to share.

In 8th grade, Toronto had a city-wide math contest for public school 8th graders, Mind over Math. I fancied myself pretty good at math, as did a friend of mine in my class, Matthew Thompson. So we made a bet over who would do better. It was probably $5.

Well, we had the test, and we'd both thought we did pretty well.

A few weeks later, during one of the school's interminable assemblies, they start giving out awards for kids who'd placed in the top 10% of this Mind Over Math thingy. I didn't get called, neither did Matthew Thompson. Total idiots were going up to the stage, but not us. We look at each other.

Then the principal says, "But that's not all. We had the top two finishers in the entire city. They both got 23 questions right, and one question wrong. They were separated by only one question -- where one of them answered it wrong, and the other one chose not to answer. In second place, str8, and in first place, Matthew Thompson. Come on up and get your awards."

I think that was the first bet I ever made. I still can't believe I chose the one guy to bet against in the entire city who beat me.

And thus began the charmed life of Matthew Thompson, winner of the $78 million Powerball, hitter of the 2005 Belmont Stakes trifecta, and runner up in the 2006 WSOP.

when you get a chance, please forward us a copy of Matt's football picks

ETA that I liked your investment strategy, which means I should probably take all my money and stuff it in a mattress instead. That, or take a flyer on Bangladeshi currency derivatives.
