Say it quick- Kerry is a dick!
I agree, meeting with Sayed Tantawi is attrocious. Kerry should be flogged in public.

It's almost as bad as when Bush's Ambassador to Egypt met with him and invited him to the United States.

I won't bother to go on about other Bush administration officials who have met with him, or leaders of major Christian religious groups (like the Archbishop of Canterbury or key scholars from Rome). Turns out, as a matter of fact, he's someone our government very much wants to influence and keep talking with us. He has enormous prestige in the Islamic world, and has decried several terrorist acts, including kidnappings.

Come to think of it, anyone meeting with any Islamarabic types is probably a terrorist. Yeh, that's it. They're all unAmerican Terroristic sorts. Especially people who meet with that Allawi dude. He's got to be a terrorist, too, right?

Stalin? Was FDR pandering to the Berkeley vote?

When the lib agenda is put forth by say the NYT or Ty or RT, then it is coherent and you can read it and think "hmmm- good point." what's great about this board is that the subnormal get on and try and make the point and the cracks show though. Sure Ty is smarter than me, but GGG let's me know it's all a lie.

I love this country!

If I remember my debates right, Bush has never done anything wrong in his life. So probably not.

But we did.

The Washington Monthly points to an interesting place to look for solutions to the health care crisis.

Yes, but .... well, to be .... um... gulp.

To be fair to Hank (man, THAT was hard to say), Stalin didn't say it was okay for the Nazis to kill American troops.

And FDR was the Commander-in-Chief. It's one thing for the CinC to decide that policy requires cooperating with the devil. It's another for a senator to do so.

If Hank's quote is accurate, Kerry should not have met with this guy. Period.

OTOH, Ty, you pointed out quite clearly that Hank's sources maybe a bit, well, fucked, and his quotes somewhat more so. If you could pull this all together in a memo for me, that would help me fully assess the situation.

eta: I read GGG's post, and that doesn't change my mind. I do have a problem with Senators, particularly recent failed Prez'l candidates, putting their noses into foreign policy in this way.

Woman loses umbrella insurance policy because she's active in the Democratic party.

Blame the trial lawyers for the insurance company's concerns.

(it actually looks like party affiliation is irrelevant, and it's a question of occupation)

As usual, I'll blame motherfucking Tom DeLay for threatening to sue Democracy for America for the commercials they ran.

It is troubling, though, that political speech could jeapordize insurance coverage.

And it's equally troubling that the response of some state legislators was to "file legislation" that would compel coverage. So much for freedom of contract.

Maybe I'm just feeling all libertarian this morning, but getting non-renewed on a million dollar umbrella liability policy isn't exactly the loss of a necessity.

Looks Like I May Not Have Been Wrong After All

  • Howard Dean's presidential campaign hired two Internet political "bloggers" as consultants so that they would say positive things about the former governor's campaign in their online journals, according to a former high-profile Dean aide.

Zephyr Teachout, the former head of Internet outreach for Mr. Dean's campaign, made the disclosure earlier this week in her own Web log, Zonkette. She said "to be very clear, they never committed to supporting Dean for the payment -- but it was very clearly, internally, our goal." The hiring of the consultants was noted in several publications at the time.

Jesus. Who owns a million dollars worth of umbrellas, anyway? What is she, a collector?

Kos For Dean

  • I've been on the road a lot the past few months. Some of it was for my day job as a web developer. But the bulk of it was for my new political consulting firm (alongside my partner).

I spent this weekend in Burlington, VT, where we officially accepted work on behalf of presidential candidate Howard Dean. Dean joins a Senate candidate in our still small but hopefully growing roster of clients.

Of course, this means many of you will accuse of me of certain biases (with good reason).

That's fine. I never claimed to be free of bias. But I've always been able to see past such biases to do what I love to do -- analyze the political landscape. For example, I'm biased against Gephardt, yet have had no problem slapping him in first for the Cattle Call. My approach to writing will remain unchanged. I won't turn this into a rah-rah for Dean site. That's just not my style.

Ultimately, I trust you all to take what I write with the proper grain of salt, fully appraised of whatever conflicts of interest I may have.
