But ... so what? The Congress is intentionally set up so that all states get equal representation in the Senate, regardless of population. What does that have to do with the supposed bribeability of senators from less populous states?

Bullies? Have you been watching the same series as the rest of the country?
Pedro is a lowlife. When he loses, he hits people. On Sunday he threw at Garcia, a platoon left fielder who isn't worth much, because he got a hit off of him earlier in the game. Then he threatened to hit other people in the head too. And he could have easily side stepped the 72 year old man who was a bit emotional because of the plates in his head (a result of being beaned in the head while playing), but decided that he would rather grab him around the neck and throw him to the ground as hard as he could. He's a punk, pure and simple. If he were in the national league, he wouldn't be as dominant because he would never hit anyone.
Ramirez is an arrogant prick. Great hitter, but when he hits in the postseason (and he hasn't done that much), he strolls up first base admiring his work and pointing to his teamates as if everyone should agree that he is as great as he thinks he is.
Everyone else uses the term "Cowboy Up" and has turned themselves into walking jokes.
The Sox are getting outclassed (as usual) and will eventually be outplayed (as usual).

Can't these useless ornaments at least try to justify breathing oxygen better spent on other people by picking up an occasional newspaper (no, Paris Match doesn't count)?

They don't.
Champagne is the perfect food wine. I regularly serve Mirabelle and it matches beautifully with all food, and especially well with pave d'affinois.

More Evidence Atkins Was Right

There is a new controlled diet study out that shows people eating a low carb diet can eat more calories and lose weight.
An excerpt:
In the end, everyone lost weight. Those on the lower-cal, low-carb regimen took off 23 pounds, while people who got the same calories on the lowfat approach lost 17 pounds. The big surprise, though, was that volunteers getting the extra 300 calories a day of low-carb food lost 20 pounds.
"It's very intriguing, but it raises more questions than it answers," said Gary Foster of the University of Pennsylvania. "There is lots of data to suggest this shouldn't be true."
Greene said she can only guess why the people getting the extra calories did so well. Maybe they burned up more calories digesting their food.
Dr. Samuel Klein of Washington University, the obesity organization's president, called the results "hard to believe" and said perhaps the people eating more calories also got more exercise or they were less apt to cheat because they were less hungry.

And here's an article regarding a Stanford and Yale study that says it's still about calories and not about carbs: http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releas...-srr040303.php
Dieting is easy: burn more calories than you consume. That's it. Simple formula

Things I Don't Need To See This Morning
An acquaintance (now ex-acquaintance), who had been feeling unwell, whipped out her doctor's gut-cam photos of her intestinal tract for me this morning utterly without warning. It was bar none the most digusting thing I have ever seen--I instantly put up my hand to block it out and she actually moved the pic around it anyway. I now understand what people who faint mean when they say that the world gets grey.
Jesus. These things are internal organs for a reason--they're slimy and repulsive. If I wanted to see that, I'd have become an asstroenterologist or Quincy myself. WTF is wrong with people? Whatever happened to simple verbal whining about health problems, and some personal dignity?

And you know exactly what happened there don't you? Unless someone shows me video of a Yankee jumping that guy "unprovoked" (as the two Boston cops say -- excuse me while I don't take their word for it), I will assume both parties are equally at fault.

The point of the article is that this Harvard study says it's not so simple:
"The study, directed by Penelope Greene of the Harvard School of Public Health and presented at a meeting here this week of the American Association for the Study of Obesity, found that people eating an extra 300 calories a day on a very low-carb regimen lost just as much during a 12-week study as those on a standard lowfat diet.
Over the course of the study, they consumed an extra 25,000 calories. That should have added up to about seven pounds. But for some reason, it did not.
"There does indeed seem to be something about a low-carb diet that says you can eat more calories and lose a similar amount of weight," Greene said. "
Everyone understand the laws of thermodynamics w/r/t dieting. Apparently, however, it appears that a calorie is not a calorie, at least as far as our body processes fuel.

Dios mio.
The reigning rich ditz, pop star Jessica Simpson, and husband, Nick Lachey, just signed on for a second season of MTV’s “Newlyweds.” Perhaps she wants a shot at atoning for the moment this year when she debated whether Chicken of the Sea is tuna or chicken. “I hate fish, so I didn’t understand why I liked this tuna,” Simpson tried to explain to David Letterman last week. “It doesn’t make any sense at all, I know.”
Jessica and Nick will be on Larry King tonight. Should be fun.

So Pedro is at fault when Zim charges directly at him, but multiple Yankee players sticking their cleats into a single groundskeeper's hands and face and it must be both of them, even if police witnesses say otherwise?
Interesting.

reality tv stuff
realityblurred.com has a bunch of stuff today, including:
- producers going to try to find a Joe Schmo 2 victim
- Kyan (QESG) freaked out at some party and verbally assaulted some press people (further cementing Thom as my favorite QE)
- Richard Hatch is doing online dating (at bigmusclebears no less) -- http://www.bigmusclebears.com/profil...l?uid=Triwhale [SPREE: gay dating site; some pics but not full frontal shots]
true bottoms need not apply.
ok, carry on.
Edited to let the lizard know that there is also a blurb about his favorite newlywed (not str8)

Manny = idiot
Zimmer = idiot
Clemens = insane
Pedro = immature, but very entertaining
I don't care what age a man is, if he comes running at me with a fist in the air, I'm going to do something to stop him. Pedro was in a lose/lose situation there. If he does nothing, he gets his ass kicked by a 72 yr old man. If he hits Zimmer, he's the devil. He made the right decision given the circumstances, althouth he's still a baby when people start getting hits off of him...
