It's nice that club professes a desire to see the truth come out, but it's sickening the way others on the right are working hard to flog the thing for all it's worth, truth be damned. For example, the Swift Vets attack (inter alia) the circumstances under which Kerry won a Bronze Star -- basically, he rescued someone under fire. The Special Forces trooper whom he rescued then writes a piece defending Kerry, so they (here, if I recall correctly, Glenn "Instapundit" Reynolds, now more than ever a hack, if there was any doubt) responds: "So Kerry's main defender can't really know much about the specifics because he was only there for a few days. Why don't they put someone forward who can?"
Particularly ironic when you consider that exactly one (1) of the Swift Vets was on Kerry's boat, and that those who were support him.
What a load of horseshit.

Meanwhile, on the Infirm boards, the party line is that the word "hero" is overused and basically meaningless since the orgiastic Patriotism Party of 2001, after which we applied it to people who did nothing more than die and/or jump out of burning buildings. Even if it ever meant something (the line goes), real heroism is in volunteering for the possibility of danger, so really 43 is just as heroic as Kerry, because flying jets around Texas is very dangerous, and Kerry can't exactly claim to be the John Rambo of Vietnam, never having single-handedly rescued dozens of POWs or getting misted with the atomized remains of dead Charlie.

But this election is so tight and so fucking poll-driven that integrity of positions is taking a back seat to doing whatever the parties believe will garner advantage in the swing states.

Memories fade after 30+ years, and these guys might not all be liars, but the most favorable interpretation is that they're letting their distaste for Kerry's activities after he returned from VN and his current politics influence their judgment.
Honest to God, and I'd think that even the GOPers who haven't served should be able to understand this -- the fact that five of the six guys who actually served on Kerry's boat back his candidacy (the 6th is dead), as well as the Army SF guy who's life he saved (Rasmussen) ["Rassmann," I believe -- T.S.], should tell you all you need to know about the quality of his service.
The sad thing is that this false ad will hurt Kerry with some voters who see it -- and direct counter-advertising or speaking against it will only make matters worse.

Less so if you lose your qualification to fly and finish your tour of duty AWOL, doing campaign work for a GOP senate race in Alabama. I'll let you tell Plated.

unfair.
Kerry didn't go AWOL. Once he cut himself shaving the second time, he used the Kennedy's to get his ass stateside, but the paperwork holds up. Then he started trolling for wizened rich ladies.

If a trollish post falls on the board without NotMe around to hear it, does it make a sound?

This exchange shows why I hope Hank's pals go right on talking about Kerry's service in Vietnam.

blow me. you can accuse Bush of all sorts of vile things. When one equates the same to Lurch- one is being trollish. Ty, again, until at least the election you need to step down from your position of authority. Slave how can you let this continue?

It is Kerry who keeps focusing on Vietnam. It is going to blow up in his face.

Whenever you get the better of Ty in an exchange, he starts with the name calling. Just blow him off.

I know this is totally outable, but I actually have a story that may be worth something to someone somewhere. In 1951 my dad was a soldier on a troop ship that stopped in Japan on its way to Korea with thousands of soldiers. He was the kind of guy that people would go out of their way for, partly because he never ever asked for anyone to go out of the way for him (while he would do anything for others).
Anyway, the ship stops in Japan and two soldiers are ordered off for other duties. My dad and, according to my dad, Pat Robertson.
So help me God. Whudda thunk that the guy would run for president later? If anyone knows how I can find out why my dad was allowed off, please let me know. I think its safe to say that we all know why Robertson was let off. Its because God loves him so much.
