I've been to a few places (the only one I can think of right now is the movie theater) where they tell me that I don't have to sign anything after they swipe the card. I think it's if the charge is under ten dollars they do this.

Also low rate of fraud. If you steal a credit card, do you go to the movies or do you buy electronics and cash-like items?*
*A friend had her wallet swipped a couple years ago. First charge was within 10 minutes for $300 of metro fare cards.

Obviously you overvalue the return you get from reading spurious interwebbian blogs, but of course, the boxed wine clouds your thinking to start with. No offence.

Dissent. He has found a poster site that will really help take his life in new directions. Value? Priceless.

Gwinky is prettier than I am.
According to Strunk and White, which if not a well written book is nonetheless accepted as authoritative by a reasonable large proportion of college students, on account of it being cheaper than other books:
Quote:
A pronoun in a comparison is nominative if it is the subject of the stated or understood verb.
- Sandy writes better than I. (Than I write.)

Advantage, gwinky.
But, it continues:
Quote:
In general, avoid "understood" verbs by supplying them.
- I think Horace admires Jessica more than I.
I think Horace admires Jessica more than I do.

Hah! I call it a tie.

Um, ok. But my objection wasn't to the supplying of the missing words. I stipulate that my construction was awkward. My objection was to the incorrect use of "me".

I turn off the shower when I am doing the actual body scrubbing and leg (etc.) shaving in the shower. Because I live in a desert.
OK, mostly I do this at the gym because unless the water is off, I can't escape the spray, and the spray washes the soapy stuff off of my scrubby thingy. But I also do it because I live in a desert. Or whatever.

So, let's say that someone lives in LA, a place where people don't seem to have manual shift cars unless it's some kind of fancy expensive sports car, or possibly a very stripped down, cheap as you can get car. The person in LA happens to have a nice-ish, but not fancy, but not stripped down car with a manual shift, and wants to get a car that is a little smaller. Is the existence of the manual shift going to mean the value is way, way a lot lower here?

Yes. There and here. And in Palm Springs.
It's a function of sitting in traffic. And shifting 678 times before you get on the freeway is exhausting.

Those rules applied to me in college. I busted out the flow restrictor in the dorm showers.

My car is in the shop due to a transmission fluid leak. Given that it's seven years old and it's only lived in sprawly places, I'm thinking it's not too terrible. Of course, I haven't seen the bill yet.
Even though I have to shift a lot, I much prefer the manual transmission.
