Be careful you know who

The Girls Scouts are pursuing 12 court claims in Akron, Ohio, for uncollected cookie money ranging from $54 to $3,500. The claims total $9,000.

The Scouts say the deadbeats, all adults, picked up cookies and signed for them.

One alleged deadbeat says most of the $3,500 debt involves cookies she gave to others to sell. She agreed to pay the debt in $100 monthly installments.

The other alleged deadbeats could face judgments or have their wages seized.

Let that be a lesson - no one takes advantage of a girl scout.

So are you implicitly trying to say you were once a girl scout? Was this in the Jamie Lee Curtis troop?

It's always consensual? You're mixing them up with Catholic school girls.

Not for sex abusers. That would ruin the economy.

Which, btb, is why I'm not surprised that a guy in Thailand was identified as the murderer. The police should have started with a list of all travellers to Thailand.

Uh oh.

"This confession is nonsensical and it appears to be delusional. To claim this was an accident is ridiculous. It's hard to imagine a more intentional, deliberate murder than hitting a girl with sufficient force to split her skull open and to fashion a garrote and twist it until she stops breathing."

A former investigator knowledgeable about the case watched a press conference by Boulder District Attorney Mary Lacy this morning and said he was concerned about what she said - and didn’t say.

"Her statements about, 'I wish that we could have continued (the investigation) in this vein, rather than in the public eye,' I agree with her in that regard. Because, for her sake, I hate to predict what’s going to come down if this whole things falls apart and they drag a guy 12,000 miles back from Bangkok only to get his 15 minutes of fame and a free ticket back to America."

Quattrone is Free!

After more than three years of legal wrangling, Frank Quattrone and federal prosecutors announced a deal in court Tuesday morning that enables the former star investment banker to avoid a third trial on obstruction charges and eventually clear his name and return to work.

The anti-business prosecutors score another loss. Smashing. Someone should send these guys packing to a socialist country where their effourts to wreak havoc on the markets would be appreciated.

I look forward to a big comeback by Quattrone!

He will probably be able to afford to settle.....

No wonder Frank Quattrone was so giddy yesterday. CNBC’s Charles Gasparino is reporting that as long as Frank Quattrone stays out of legal trouble for a year, he will receive $120 million from Credit Suisse First Boston.

Dunno where this should go, but might as well post it here

Salon.com has a new job board. There's a "legal" section that currently only has listings from a firm in Seattle. A lot of the other sections look like they have some of those better-with-a-law-degree jobs the career services people alluded to but never directed anyone to. Politics, finance and management stuff mainly.

Sebby could finally ditch this law life and become an HR Effectiveness Consultant!

So what is going to happen? I'm quite sure that Karr's baby-loving days are gone. Is there anyone in this country with a child under 18 who won't keep their eye out for him? Even Thailand will know what he's up to, and still take the 20% GDP hit.

Mary Lacy should publicly disembowel herself with a plastic butter knife as penance.

If she doesn't, whatever consituency paid for this boondoggle with their tax dollars should help her out.

What a fuckin embarassment.
