Nah, no more so than when you have sex around ovulation. It's just when you're pregnant, there's ovulation-level mucus all the time instead of only for 3-7 days per cycle.

The cervix tends to generate mucus during pregnancy to protect itself and keep the uterus sterile. The plug, and the entire cervix, softens ("ripens") in the weeks leading up to the onset of labor. I hate to go all Earth Mother on you, but it's exactly this kind of thinking that results in a near-direct relationship between a patient's advanced education and her likelihood to have a C-section, emergency or otherwise.
