I wonder if the viewing public has gotten tired of these shows? How do the ratings compare to past Survivors? I haven't watched any of them, but it strikes me that this one is promoted more heavily (commercials, etc.) than previous survivors. True? False?

Dealbreakers

HELL: The Dealbreaker

A friend of mine set me up with a woman that he barely knew. Since my friend has good taste, I figured it was worth a shot. So I asked her out for a drink. We e-mailed pictures of ourselves so we'd be able to find each other. The picture was cute and matched her real appearance.

The conversation was reasonable and she seemed nice. I was thinking that I would ask her out again to get to know her a little better. As we were walking out to our cars she told me she was a little embarrassed about where she parked. I thought that was odd and tried to imagine how parking could be embarrassing. Did she double park? Did she park in a tow-away zone? Did she park on someone's lawn? So I jokingly asked, "Where did you park, in a handicapped spot?"

And she said yes.

Appalled, I paused for a few seconds, thinking of what to say, and finally spluttered, "Aren't you worried that you'll get a ticket?"

And she said, "No, because I'm using my mom's placard."

Earlier she had told me that her mom had died last year. I was totally shocked, having never met someone who used their dead mother's handicapped placard to park illegally.

I thought maybe it was a joke. But I saw that she had indeed parked her SUV with a placard in a handicapped spot. So I mumbled a good night and left wondering if she was collecting her mother's Social Security checks too.

I thought you were going to post the one about the woman who didn't smile in her pictures because she didn't have teeth.

(Embarassed because I have a relative that occasionally uses a dead spouse's handicapped sticker.)

It doesn't bother you to say that your dad 'bought' your mom like a common whore (albeit with a better paycheck and benefits)?

Low proletarian

Destitute
Bottom out-of-sight

Oh yeah I read that. It's where I first encountered the term "prole." I'll second TS's recommendation. It's full of interesting observations, some of which are dubious. I particularly like his notion that the worst dressers are the "bottom out of sight" and "destitute," but followed closely by the "top out-of-sight."

The actual use of the H/C sticker doesn't bother me too much. What makes it a deal-breaker is that she didn't have enough sense to park in a normal space for the first date. I mean, Christ, let's make a little effort to put your best foot forward. If I found out about the H/C sticker after a month of dating it would make no difference at all.

There is nothing that says a moderator cannot flame, and lord knows there is no history of "neutral" mods as far as I have seen it. Neutral in their duties yes, nuetral in who they like or dislike, or how they speak to people when they aren't wearing their moderator hat, no. I don't think I would be able to have many moderators if I expected them to conduct themselves that way.

However, moderators are required not to use their moderator abilities in anything but a neutral fashion, and if it is possible that there can be some confusion as to whether they are speaking as a moderator or speaking as a regular poster, they need to make clear which they are doing.

Alex however is not a moderator on this particular board, he is a moderator on Mid-Atlantic and Fitness. So on the fashionista board he is no different from any other poster. And if he wants to have a good, old fashioned flame war on this board, it is none of my concern.

That said, if I find a moderator is a constant problem on any board, I would have to think seriously about whether to keep said person a moderator.

Alex however has not done anything to give me pause in my decision to make him a moderator on the boards he mods.

It is true you cannot ignore mods though, regardless of the board on which they are participating.

You've been watching too much CBS. Which might be explained by their coverage of the NCAA tournament. Or football. Or, god forbid, Touched by an Angel.

Upper class people don't just wander out into parking lots. They have their people do that. C'mon.

For those who don't know, when paigow says "this is private, take it off the board," she really means "please insult me in private so I can claim you are a psycho and then forward your messages to everyone else as 'proof' thereof."

"Look at these horrible 'private' messages I got from so-and-so. Isn't s/he CRAZY?"

You seem rather touchy about the ugly issue. I know you claim you are a hottie IRL, but hotties aren't touchy about the ugly issue like you are. We feel sorry for the ugly folk.
JFF,

I'd reply, but I have a problem with explaining my appearance to a man.

S(I am not touchy about ugliness - I'm the cat who gets screamed at for being too harsh about women's bodies... I AM touchy about you twisting posts, as you've done once again here)D

That is not an accurate description of their courtship. My Mom used my Dad as her ticket out of nowheresville. Got to give her credit because it worked.

Its not like women of her generation had too many options.
Sure some of them got PhDs, but in her day, if you had a pretty face and perky C-cup breasts, you didn't get a PhD you got married. There was pressure on the women of her generation to get married and have kids and stay at home and raise them. She wasn't the type to buck the tide. Found herself the best sperm donor she could.

Quite frankly, I thank her for it. Money may not make you happy, but it sure does make life easier.
