even YOU, the honorary Queen of Sheba, have to admit that Rap for White Folks 101 is sort of like VH1 doing an homage to Death Metal.

Yes, actually. Went like this: I won the argument, then the little shit sucker punched me in the stomach, then the toe of my proto-Manolos connected with his nutsack with a satisfying "crunch."
While I usually agree that the man who strikes the first blow is the first to have run out of ideas, it is invariably best to be the one striking the last blow.

He's not there. Word is they also brought in a portable toilet, which seems to indicate they're gonna be there a while.
Court TV is reporting that the search is based on allegations made by a 12-year-old boy.

Yay you!
Just in case nobody ever heard this before, one of the things to look for in a confrontation is when someone is making a fist while their hand is at their side. You see that fist, you are authorized to punch first. Or, at least, someone in society is taught to strike when they see the balled fist.
And not to get all political here or nothing, but I'd rephrase your last sentence as "in the end, it doesn't matter who's right, it matters who's left".

The word "writes" gives her typo-filled, stream of quasi-conciousness, grammar-deprived missives too much credit. I prefer to say the "things she expectorates through her fingers," although I imagine she mutters while typing too.

I'm thinking of expanding the depth of my collection of rap and/or hip-hop, to the extent there's a difference.
Albums I admit to owning:- De La Soul - Three Feet High and Rising
- De La Soul - De La Soul Is Dead
- De La Soul - Buhloone Mind State
- A Tribe Called Quest - Low End Theory
- A Tribe Called Quest - Anthology
- Public Enemy - Fear of a Black Planet
- Us3 - Hand on the Torch (haven't listened since 1993)
Albums I don't yet own but agree everyone should:- Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique
- N.W.A. - Straight Outta Compton
- Dr. Dre - The Chronic
What are the must-haves? Which Eminem, if any? Which Tupac? Which Cypress Hill, if any? Does it matter that I'm interested in the musicality of rap, and so a straight-up beat plus hardcore street lyrics isn't particularly interesting to me? (I tend to like jazz and soul horn samples.) I'm pretty bored by Old School stuff, and I am not at all interested in compiling a complete history or anything.
PLF, mold me in your divine image.

In order to participate in the poll, I recommend the Office Space Soundtrack.

It's a Jack London story called something like "To Build a Fire". The guy actually does get a fire going at one point, but as it's under a snow covered tree, all the snow from the branches falls onto the fire and extinguishes it. He then tries to coax the dog over nicely so he can cut it open and warm his hands, but the dog is not used to being spoken to nicely so it knows the dude is up to no good and thus keeps its distance. I believe it's so cold in the story that the guy's spit freezes before it hits the ground. In the end the guy decides that freezing to death (drifting off to sleep and not ever waking) is not such a bad way to die. True that.

Not only do I remember this story, but I remember seeing a movie of it (in school, no less...). I was definitely in elementary school -- probably 5th or 6th grade. Come to think of it, that's kind of gruesome for elementary school students, no? Or maybe I'm just squeamish.

If I was gone, you would have nothing to post about and would be without goals. Without me, you're nothing. You sit here all day reading all my posts, waiting for me to get into it with someone and then for the whole board to pile on, all the while crafting a long message that you will type and edit for hours. Then, just as its getting close to the time where the East Coasters turn to their work in the home stretch of the day so they can get the hell out of her, you post your last word, pile on , tour de force, just before it turns in to the Dead Horse Hour.
so what exactly would you do here without me?

And in case you were jonesin' for the cover art:
I used to think I read them all on my weekend trips with my mom to Barnes & Noble on 18th Street (back when there were only two locations -- that one and the Annex across the street where you could see some good nudie pics in the photography section). But there are like 50 of them.

Absolutely. If I can listen to crunchy-granola lesbian singer-songwriters, then surely Atticus "White Bread" Grinch can learn all about the myriad Christ symbols contained in Tupac's oeuvre.
But don't forget the Vanilla Ice, baby.
