I'm very proud of myself in that I put down Eragon and actually got rid of it about 100 pages in. I should just get rid of them.)

I'd heard a lot of praise about it when it first came out, but it was so damned derivitive of so much other fantasy that I couldn't handle it. I don't care if the homeschooled kid was only 15 when he wrote it and his family spent two years hawking it at book fairs across the country. It's still not very good fantasy. I think the kid got a break because he was young, not because he was good. It bugs me that he conned a publisher to give him a three book deal. It bugs me even more that he conned someone to make a movie.

As for Paigow, she's only funny when you know who she is and why she does what she does. Question for the hockey dads/moms- when do players decide to become a thug/enforcer? Are there 12 year old kids whose main skill is they fight really well? Parents saying "my son plays the enforcer position?"

Probably at the Bantam level (13YO 14YO) certain kids develop the ability and inclination to physically dominate and intimidate others without the commensurate skill. Maybe later. Depends on the skill level too.

Before that, the more skilled players are often the most physical too.
