When I was a much younger associate, our client was buying a portfolio of loans and we were in Pittsburgh for diligence around Christmas. Santa & reindeer sweaters are more suburban soccer mom than kitsch. Anyone could wear something like that in December. A woman would need the right combination of looks and personality to pull off a sock monkey formal dress. I'm sad to admit, I have neither though I wish I did.

Well the tree got caught drinking. Twice. That's why it was romping - but the official mascot is the cardinal and no one can tell you why.

There is no mascot; it's the team name. Once Indians was dumped, every suggestion was either dumb (Spikes) or had nothing to do with the school (Griffins).
Why is the Mariners' mascot a moose?

Because no one wanted to be the fisherman?
Cute story, the guy who wears the outfit - his name is Moose. And if you can tell me what a Philly phanatic or what the hell is that thing?

AON, the Mariner Moose rocks
Hell, this year alone, he almost killed Coco Crisp.

Pssst. You may be right, but only in the Midwest. Elsewhere it is not even kitsch -- just stupidity.

I thought it was cardinal (as in, red, or crimson), not the cardinal.
Set me straight, someone.

For the record, I do not have a Santa sweater. Or a reindeer sweater.

My sister went to Stanford (also not an Ivy, for those rushing to educate the Texan* on such things). According to her Cardinal is color, not bird. No article attached to it.
*FWIW, none of the four institutions of higher learning that I attended were Ivys. I'm ok with that.
