Edited to note that I appear to be Bilmore's less eloquent SP today. I think it is time for me to pack it in and start wearing sweatpants like George Costanza (no offense, oldtimer).
Edited again to note that I don't know how that happened (the quoting myself part). This is the second sign that I should pack it in.

Gay marriage and the Pope.... Whaaaaaa????

Your assuming religion is rational.
I think Atticus's explanation is probably the closest to what's going on. Civil marriage will always be thought of as quasi-religious, so anyone who seriously believes in the religious aspects of marriage will be concerned that by permitting civil marriages between gays/lesbians, religious marriage will be tarnished.
|
Which is why the government (state and federal) needs to get out of the business of according people benefits based upon their marital status. Either marriage is a civil law institution or it's a religious one. If religious, no tax breaks, no survivorship rights to property, no social security benefits for widows, etc. If civil, then everybody gets to share in the benefits equally, and those of you who want to have an additional, separate, religious ceremony can do so.

Me, too. I think it's a meaningless thing.

You see, Scalia was right. First it's sodomy, and next thing you know the government can't regulate masturbation or even (gasp!) marriage.
This is why Bush and the Pope have gotten in bed together to stop this homosexual agenda dead in its tracks.

2) Lance has been known as a prick as long as I can remember. The cancer somehow allows everyone to forget this.
3) Calling Lance the "best athlete" is the world is outright laughable. Let him compete in - let alone win - a few decathalons and we see if he is more than just an endurance athlete. And then let's see if he can hit a fastball.

Thanks. Although I wouldn't compare cycling to NASCAR, which, I've said before, is just an excuse for racist rednecks (redundant)to get together for a party they know won't be crashed by minorites or northerners...
Actually, cycling may be the converse to NASCAR. A place where euro-wannabe elitest white folk can go knowing that their party won't be crashed by rednecks...
And yes, I'm kidding.

I didn't know what the unspeakable words besides the n-word were either (and no one answered the other posters' earlier queries).

OK you cranky bastards it's Friday in case you've forgotten.
Here's a funny picture of the Prince and a statue. Use your discretion.
Huge erection causes blushes on the eve of Royal visit
A giant statue of a naked man with a two-foot erection has caused a row in Salzburg after it was unveiled on the eve of a visit by Prince Charles.
Called Arc de Triomphe, the statue by artists Ali Janka, Wolfgang Gantner, Tobias Urban and Florian Reither shows a naked man bending over backwards with his hands on the ground and a two-foot erection thrusting into the sky.
(With a "fountain effect")
Please go look at this and have a laugh - it's Friday goddamnit!!
Arc de Triomphe

Porn king Larry Flynt wants to rule California
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,93547,00.html
The registered Democrat, civil libertarian and free speech advocate said he'd solve California's budget woes by expanding slot machine gambling.
I have always had a weird sort of respect for Larry Flynt. I have never had the pleasure of viewing his magazine (or any other nudie book for that matter) but I have seen some documentaries about him and it looks like he was just saying that he was gonna print what he liked and "fuck you" to the tight-asses who were aghast at the idea of a clitoris. After living a few years in that pole-up-my-ass mecca called Cincinnati I certainly grew to respect him more for having started his empire in the midst of those people. If I lived in California I would probably vote for him -- if I voted, which I don't do anymore since I got my husband a bit interested in the news and current events and he insists upon canceling out my vote for fun.
edited to note that I now live near the place where some wacko took a shot at Larry and almost killed him so I should probably move to California so that this odd relationship we have can come full circle.
