I heart Wonkette because . . .
. . . she's Lisa Loeb on the outside, with a creamy Stephen Colbert center.
Quote:
One way to fight the homosexual agenda: Confuse them. After passing a bill last week reaffirming the state's ban on gay marriage, Virginia lawmakers have passed legislation allowing employers to extend insurance benefits to same-sex couples. They also rejected a law that would have required borrowers from the Virginia Housing Development Authority to be either married or related by blood. Social conservatives see this as the end of "family rule," more open-minded lawmakers see it as the springboard to super-kinky girl-on-girl action: One cited a scenario in which a "mother wants. . . to buy a home with the mother of her imprisoned boyfriend." Said Delegate Terrie Suit, "That might constitute an irregular relationship to a couple of people on the floor of this House, but I thought that that was admirable." Sure, if by "admirable" you mean "lezzed up."

Changes in Mainstream Thought?

I find it remarkable that a bill almost passed which would have forbidden employers from offering whatever health benefits they choose.

If it makes you feel any better, I would think that that bill would only affect employers who buy insurance, not employers (most large ones) that have self-insured plans, which are governed by ERISA. But I'm not sure. Wow, I kinda sorta want to research this. Wacky!

Why? Did Steamboat Willie have an inscription hidden on the bow of the boat?
Or, (having just read Angels and Demons), does Donald Duck have Illuminati branded into his chest?

The answer you seek can be found here. Or perhaps not. We're very cagey, we Wiccan French intellectuals.

Don't know if anyone else remembers this one, but there's an old Bloom County cartoon in which Opus, in an absolutist zeal to avoid harming animals, goes far beyond foreswearing leather products and carnivorous dietary practices but ends up completely immobilized, suspended upside down in a tree, holding his breath to avoid killing millions of germs.
Many times when I read this board I am reminded of that cartoon, and if I could find it I would post it.
I acknowledge that this explanation of the joke kills it. More's the pity.
Carry on.

Coulter v. Cleland
Confidential to Ann Coulter: Why are you a hateful bitch? {Spree: venomous harpy disparages war record of Silver Star-winning triple-amputee Vietnam vet, saying he "didn't give his limbs for his country or leave them on the battlefield"}.

Failed Russian Missle Launch
Quote:
"The failed launch has shown the gap between the real condition of the Russian military and the ambitions and muscle-flexing of the Russian leadership," said Yevgeny Volk, the head of the Heritage Foundation's Moscow office.

Um, isn't the more fundamental proof of the gap between the condition of the Russian military and its ambitions the fact that THE HERITAGE FOUNDATION HAS A MOSCOW OFFICE?!?!

I was betting you would go a different way on this - something like this is proof that the Reagan budgets and borrowings were unnecessary all along.

I didn't want to be rude, this being so close to George Kennan's 100th birthday and all.
