Good point. But Bush's continued mantra that the economy is doing well when the jobs situation has not really turned may create some anger on its own for those people who just aren't seeing the "success" of the Bush tax cuts.
At any rate, it would be more of an interesting campaign than this whole "I'll see you the National Guard record, and I'll raise you an intern affair" poker game we're watching right now.

Prosecutor Sues Ashcroft
Quote:
A federal prosecutor in a major terrorism case in Detroit has taken the rare step of suing Attorney General John Ashcroft, alleging the Justice Department interfered with the case, compromised a confidential informant and exaggerated results in the war on terrorism.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Richard Convertino of Detroit accused the Justice Department of "gross mismanagement" of the war on terrorism in a whistleblower lawsuit filed late Friday in federal court in Washington.

Considering the Large Cash Settlement provided to Linda Tripp, however, it may be career expanding as well.

The White House backed away Wednesday from its own prediction that the economy will add 2.6 million new jobs before the end of this year, saying the forecast was the work of number-crunchers and that President Bush was not a statistician.

Wisconsin strikes back
On NPR at lunch they had an excerpt from his bye-bye speech in which he basically said to his supporters, don't write me in, the most important things is to get W out.
ETA clubby, is Edwards significantly more protectionist than W? W has been quite the protector.

Sounds like fuzzy math to me.

Agreed on W - but Edwards is even more so.

How about the war was justified in any event platform. And is the corallary to your platform - Americans should all have equal wealth? If so, you should put that on a bumber.

But the Republican congress won't go along with Edwards' protectionism (just because they will be against anything any Democratic president wants) so there would probably be less net protectionism.

Confidential to clubbish -- you are going to extremes again. This never ever advances the discussion. I tell you this not because I only care when Republicans do it, but because I think you are intelligent and flexible enough not to want to go there.

I don't think Congressional consent is required for tariffs - isn't by executive order?

Another great example of a DEM failing to recognize extremes on the left but eager to point them out on the right.

Not funny.
Can Congress overrule on a tariff?

That may work alright, but even George Will sez that the "Yeah, we were wrong. So what?" approach is way too casual for any Administration -- which needs to be trusted on big issues.

As for the first part, no thanks:
We'll stick to "Americans should all have decent paying jobs -- enough to lift someone who works full-time above the poverty line." and "Americans should all have health insurance, and reasonable access to primary and preventive care." Those sound better. Please advise the President to argue to the contrary.
As to the second part, that just sounds rude.
