Seriously, I give you the following hockey predictions:
Colorado wins the West. Patrick Waaaaaaaaah will avenge that game seven loss last year.

The Senators will make it past the Isles.

The Flyers will not be able to consistently protect Mister Bean in the playoffs, and they will not generate enough offense to get past the Leafs. Owen Nolan scores more than Slave at a drunken FB get-together, and Belfour stops Amonte and Roenick.

More after the first games are played.
Not (hit someone!) Bob

SO no $$$ on the Washington Capitals?!

I just hate to see you resorting to cheap rhetorical gimmicks. Don't make me cite all the times that you have used that defense, classy lady.

BTW, the whole classy thing made me laugh because when I was a kid a neighbor's daughter got her first car - a Buick the model name of which is escaping me but if I say maroon, Long Island, 1980s, you'll be able to picture it -- with "Classy Ldy" as her license plate. Somehow I sensed that pointing out the inherent contradiction of the tag would not go over well.

Hang around on these Boards long enough and anything that you say will be packaged as the "classic [ineffective response]".
I'm getting sick of this little comment and you just keep making it.

You can apply this "whenever someone smacks me down it's in a form I've heard before" argument to any IRL conversation too. It's stupid and lazier than coming up with an actual response, which may also be ironic since you are accusing someone else of being lazy.

Add that one to your "classic ineffective response" list. We'll just keep building it for you.

Why are you getting so pissed off? Of course all of this shit is applicable in real life. The same arguments happen over and over again. What's wrong with pointing out patterns? If it makes you -- or me -- less likely to resort to something weak, all the better. It makes the debates more interesting.

Edited to remove the quote because the repetition of it stung me.

Since you said Buick, I'll say it was a Regal. But from the rest of the description, I'd swear it had to be an Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme.

Same diff. Hence, the Fletchian "Oldsmobuick."

No, I was too busy typing because I didn't want someone to beat me to it.

Thank you. It was a Regal. But I think she was undecided between it and the Cutlass for a while. As you note, like it would have made a difference?

At least she didn't have a license plate (not "tag," I've really been down here for too long) that said "My Regal." I fucking hate that. Like I can't tell by looking at the back of your car what kind of fucking car it is, you money-wasting dipshit!

That wasn't "so pissed off." That was typical TM complaint mode.

As for your actual argument, you must understand that sometimes those responses apply. So, when you say, "I heard that one already," it sounds much weaker than coming up with something your own self.

Could be. I just always laughed when CTD (well, the evilboard's CTD would say "are you calling me a gay?") I guess I was just channeling the older, funnier CTD. Although being a gay (or the plural, two or more gays) may have some of the trappings of a semi-secret society like the masons, and have cool handshakes or fezzes or something, I don't know.

Interesting...

I have always pictured him as more of a Chris Cooper type (although that may be a result of his numerous references to Podunkville.)

So, which is it NotBob? Chris Cooper or the Martindale/2d Darrin/MacMurray amalgam posited by paigow? (Who is that guy anyway?)

RP may be off base with regard to whether the "self-deprecating" angle is ineffective or not. I mean, shit, it may be a cop-out but at least there's some reasoning to it: Why'd you say this? I was being self-deprecating. Oh.

But, if the "classic smackdowns" are such lame-ass comebacks like:

You are responding to me, you must be obsessed with me
You don't know me so don't comment on what I write
Who are you
When you've been posting as long as I have...

then I'm not really sure they qualify as "smackdowns". They're just bullshit.

By "Mister Bean," I mean unibrowed Roman Cechmanek. The guy looks *exactly* like Mister Bean, NTTAWWT.

In the battle of the goalies, it's Belfour over Floppy. (Uh, that's Cechmanek again). Not Bobby Clarke will be wailing and gnashing his teeth as Broad Street rises up in fury over the loss.

See now, to me "Floppy" is Hextall, so perhaps we should just stick with Mr. Bean.

Just a guess, but I can't think of anything that would make steam come out of paigow's ears faster than being called "classy lady".
