I agree with both statements, but think it might be fairly painless to try to keep the noise down, particularly if it's an easily fixed something-hitting-the-wall thing. They're young -- dump a bunch of pillows and blankets and comforters on the floor and fuck away with gusto.

You play your grand piano at 2:30 am? You're lucky she didn't come after you with an axe.

You're concerned about being able to handle your daughter's TITS? You probably shouldn't have kids. I can't imagine that prison life would be particularly easy for you. Unless you feigned insanity and managed to get into a lobotomy-friendly program.

But I do play well. And I depress the soft pedal, which, surprisingly, does not actually make the piano silent. Alas, I will play in the middle of the night no longer.
Am I a vampire?

I think part of why I am concerned is that I did not play the piano last night. No idea what it was about last night that made her send the letter.

You're just a person who should probably live in a house. A house far far away from other people. Or maybe you could live in a panic room. How big is that piano?

She may have been working on it for a while and just happened to send it today. Maybe she didn't want to send it the day after there was noise. She's really definitely going way out of her way to be nice.

But she claims there WAS noise last night, which there very well could have been. I didn't think we were loud, but I know certain things were said that I guess I would prefer the neighbors not know.

Yeah, that may have been the problem. I am more of a moaner than a screamer, but we are both talkers and he is, well, not shy.
But again, this was no where NEAR the first time and no where NEAR the noisiest.

Speaking from experience, when you have a noisy-at-night neighbor and are not a rockstar sleeper, you tend to anticipate the noise, which makes it hard to fall asleep even when it's quiet at the moment, and you're almost listening for it. Then it becomes time to buy a white noise machine and fill a scrip for Ambien, and if that's not enough, say something to the neighbor.
She might have wanted to give it time to see if your social life was unusually peppy and not jump all over you right away.

It is a very polite & well done letter (I particularly liked how she made it perfectly clear that she can hear Abba humping without actually saying it - she perfectly tread the line between "I can hear you" and not eavesdropping), and it is reasonable that someone should expect to be able to sleep without being privy to every sound produced by others going about their lives, but it is unreasonable for people not to be able to conduct their normal private lives as they see fit in their own homes. Loud slam-dancing parties at 2 am on school nights are one thing, but ANY proposed curtailment of intimacies for the sake of the neighbors is UNACCEPTABLE.
I say this as someone currently living in digs with floors that enable me to hear the details of every fight the nurses downstairs have with every boyfriend they've ever had past and present. If I'm getting laid, I feel entirely free to howl like a banshee if I so desire and not only do I not care if the neighbors can hear (I am perfectly certain they can), I expect them to dutifully pretend that they can't. If they can't do that I expect them to be joyously fucking happy for me - I've been married going on a decade, and if I'm still getting nailed well and regularly there is hope for us all.
In any event, my solution would be to thank her for informing you of the thin walls and suggest you jointly go to your condo/whatever board and demand that they properly insulate the units. You can additionally cite the puppy, surely someone has a colicky baby, etc. The problem isn't that you're loud or that she is bitter about not getting any, the problem is inadequate construction, and that's a problem for all tenants. Then you can concede the short-term mitigation - agreeing to keep the parties and piano quiet after midnight on working nights would be fair. I would not consider amending your sexual practices, or acknowledge that your neighbor has any standing to request that you do so, noise notwithstanding.

Soccer hooligans
OK, question for you soccer hooligans. First of all, who brings flares to a soccer match?
Second, how the hell do you get flares (they said there were 30 flares on the field) into a soccer match? Do they not check you?
If I go to a Raiders game (the Niners don't care - they're just happy that someone came to the game), I have to leave my umbrella outside for someone to steal, I get a cursory pat-down, have to open my coat, and open my purse in order to get inside. Do they not do this at soccer games?
