all across England there are enormous mansions that the owners can no longer afford to heat. they close down sections. Al needs 80 rooms?
And you know what- if he really expects to lead the entire world into changing its energy consumption- maybe he should move.

Yes, this is essentially it. There is a restaurant style kitchen; the house is either entirely dark, with no one there, or there is a huge gathering of people. After all, one daughter is still single. The Gores live in Washington; the Nashville place is just for entertaining.

One side point, Spanky -- did you actually tell your ex-girlfriend that you expected her dissertation to get laughed out of the room because she knew nothing about math?

P.S. Maybe you should have hired her a tutor for your anniversary present.

In other words, did they seem to be the type of people that spent most if their time in the library, or who spent most of their time speaking at rallys? Has she ever talked to you about the general reputation of sociology departments at universities and what she thinks about that reputation?

This is why it is painful to talk to you.

I'm not suggesting we all need to turn into Ed Begley. But if you live with less, you waste less.

He's got a show on the Learning Channel about the wacky antics that ensue between him, with his bicycle powered generator to provide electricity to his house and his solar-pwered tin foil cooktop, and his wife, who isn't an insane fanatic.

Hollywood's wealthy liberals can now avoid any guilt they might feel for consuming so much non-renewable fossil fuel in their private jets, their SUVs, and their multiple air-conditioned mansions. This year's Oscar goodie bag contained gift certificates representing 100,000 pounds of greenhouse gas reductions from TerraPass, which describes itself as a "carbon offset retailer." The 100,000 pounds "are enough to balance out an average year in the life of an Academy Award presenter," a press release from TerraPass asserts. "For example, 100,000 pounds is the total amount of carbon dioxide created by 20,000 miles of driving, 40,000 miles on commercial airlines, 20 hours in a private jet and a large house in Los Angeles. The greenhouse gas reductions will be accomplished through TerraPass' [program] of verified wind energy, cow power [collecting methane from manure] and efficiency projects." Voila, guilt-free consumption! It reminds us of the era when rich Catholics paid the church for "dispensations" that would shorten their terms in Purgatory.

These overpaid Hollyweird babies have the unmitigated gaul to bemoan and complain about "global warming" and that Joe Sixpack needs to do more - while at the same time, the bozos behind the first "Green Oscars" gives them a freebie to "offset" their jet-setting, carbon burning avarice and to help them feel better about themselves when condemning the masses?
The world becomes more absurd by the day.

Gall. We have gall. And I think they tend to condemn the non-green rich people more than the masses. The masses are more encouraged to be better.
Spending their money on planting trees etc. is as good a way as any, and better than most ways, to spend it.

I prefer gaul, as it serves as a reminder of how obnoxious the French are.
How about "Gaulle"?
