For me, it's usually the trip from my bed to the backdoor to let one of the dogs out first thing in the morning that kills my legs. I feel like a 70 year old woman (and not the one that beat me by two minutes in the triathlon) when I walk around the morning after a long run/bike/swim.

I would like to share a tradition with you. Whenever I'm in LA and on the 405 or whatever, I throw a middle finger in the general direction of downtown as a tribute to my friends Gattigap, fringey, ncs, str8 and Mr. Man. Just be sure there isn't a lowrider/hummer/blacked out escalade riding alongside you in bumper to bumper traffic when you do it. Most of your fellow drivers are strapped down there.

why not just periodically throw it southwards from where you are?

The Spice Girls plan to reunite.

Will they release other video classics like Say You'll Be There?

Your aim is way off for most of the people included on the list, but str8 and I appreciate the gesture. Well, I assume str8 does. Wherever he is. <sniff>

Update the file: morning trips to the backdoor leave RT sore. I guess some activities are best left to the evening hours.

My trainer has turned me on to several tools that really help with the muscle stiffness. One is this foam roller which works like a self-massage. This has done wonders for my tight hamstrings which have historically hindered my running. I bought mine at the local CitySports. I think I saw some that came with an instructional DVD but I've learned all I know from my trainer, who's been taking workshops on using them.

The other is these things called foot wakers. They were developed by this yoga teacher named Yamuna and the theory is that the balance of your foot muscles affect the rest of your legs and body. I pronate and I've found they really take care of any muscle aches that develop in my foot, from running or wearing backless sandals and so forth.

I'm east of the 405 . . . so I think he might be catching me too. Depending on how hard he's throwing that middle finger. Actually it's probably flying over my head so it can get all the way downtown.

Yay! No monkey middle finger for me!

I know you think I'm joking, but I take it very seriously, ask Gattigap. Sometimes I even do the 360 degree finger, just so I don't leave anybody out. I don't need the aggravation of hearing about hurt feelings from some of my more sensitive imaginary friends.

I have this image of you sitting in a conference room chair literally spinning around with your middle finger thrown up. Wow. I hope no one walks in.

OK, I even went to the site, but it just says it includes a booklet with exercises, so my question remains -- what kinds of things do you do with them??

With these, you stand (or sit) with bare feet on the wakers. You start with heels on the wakers and balls of the feet on the floor. You work backwards until your toes are on the wakers and your heels are on the floor. You do the same thing, with your feet turned so the outside of your feet press into the wakers, then you do the same thing with the inside. The nibs press into various pressure points on your feet.

You can also use them on your hands. For some reason the muscles around my thumbs have been sore lately and they loosen that tension up nicely.

Yes! The foam roller rocks. Also, I have these things called Yogatoes (www.yogapro.com) that you put on your toes and they realign them and it seems to magically help with leg aches. I roll my feet over tennis balls as well to stretch them out, sort of like a foam roller for the plantar muscle.
