BTW, for all the people saying how wonderful the wildcard is, because it's created excitement in the last week, are they forgetting that if we had the old divisional lineup, right now the Red Sox, Yankees, and Indians would all be fighting for the division title, while the White Sox would have the Angels nipping at their heals?
True. But then you wouldn't have been able to enjoy the Yankees' biggest choke in the history of baseball and quite possibly sports last year.

And it's not exactly any less exciting the way it is now v. if there was no wild card this year.

Remember how I recommended that restaurant to you as my third glass of Two-Buck Chuck slipped from between my sweaty palms? Was it any good? I was wondering if you'd enjoyed your meal that night, as I lay in bed. By myself. So fucking alone. And your hotel seemed really cool - remember how I said I "couldn't possibly" go inside for a nightcap? Well, now I kinda wonder what it looked like inside. Your room. Did I just say that?

Anyway, I hope everything is going well for you. By the way, if this isn't you, please call me anyway.

Thinking of you,

OWR.

Warning to the citizens of Chicago, I'm headed in your direction.
San Diego was nice. Well, other than the outcome of the game.

There were a nice array of Eli Sucks shirts and signs and the San Diego crowd launched into that chant early and often. Happily for them, some part of the Giants team did in fact suck last night. Unhappily for them, if they actually cared, it was not Eli that sucked. He had a good game and seemed to handle the-loudest-jeers-he'll-hear-until-the-New-York-crowd-turns-on-him-at-some-indeterminate-date-in-the-future quite well.

My friend and I both purchased Manning jerseys in SD (smart vendor also sold opposing team garb). We were not overly heckled for them. I did notice that people seemed to have more courage to taunt when I went out for a beer at the 21-3 point than they did at the beginning of the game. Hard to tuant before you get the lead when your team is 0-2, I guess.

No dust storms.

Apropos of nothing, I couldn't believe all the "oooh, Eli's going to San Diego after dissing them" hype -- I mean, it's not like it was Lindros's first visit to Quebec, or Elway's first visit to Baltimore. This is San Di-fricken-ego, fer cryin out loud. It's a beautiful place filled with nice people. They may *try* to be mean, but they can't really do it.

Plus, you're a chick. You are always going to get less grief whilest wearing opposing colors.

Biggie

so I was on a six hour drive this weekend and turned the music over to 3 young men who played solid rap. I found out I really like Biggie Smalls- great voice. so today I've been trying to figure out what CD to buy. I know with dead guys you need to be careful of the post-death "clean out the recording studio" CDs where record company publishes a bunch or crap the artist thought wasn't good enough to publish- but here it looks like they were all released after death.

Was he just coming up when he died? Any CD(s) recommendations?

I wouldn't mind hearing about some of the festival highlights, either.

France was good, if anybody's interested.

The stadium was surprisingly loud. I wasn't sure they could pull it off, but the San Diegians sure seemed pissed off. It might have been surprise that anyone would not choose to live in SD if given the opportunity though.

Don't you believe that for a second. Especially in Tempe. See story re: Paco and nearly being killed trying to help a fellow jersey-wearer in hostile territory.

Or Oakland. Where they don't care. I saw some poor idiot in a Chargers jersey get the hell beat out of him in Oakland. Never ever wear anything but Silver and Black in Oakland.

The only good rap is Public Enemy.

Foolishly, I played Drew Brees instead of Eli. Even with the loss, Manning had more fantasy points.
Of course, I suck as a coach - I picked NYG for my defense this week. What was I thinking?

Why would I go to an Oakland game? Seriously. I laughed when you pointed out that I could go see the Giants play Oakland this year in Oakland on Dec. 31. I'd sorta like to see January 1 of next year, thank you very much.

I'll head up to that game as soon as I'm done wandering through Compton wearing gang colors. Care to brush me up on any Crips hand signals?

It's fine, as long as you don't root for your team, or wear any blue. Or red. Don't wear anything but black. It's actually a very interesting place to watch football. Interesting being used lightly here. It's like Halloween every Sunday. And the police will let you do just about anything except bring an umbrella. Which is so ironic when the guy sitting next to you is wearing spikes on his shoulder pads and is carrying a mace.

Going to games in SF is probably a lot like your SD experience. No one really gives you a hard time for wearing your colors or rooting for the away team. Of course that crowd is pretty down-trodden and sad anyway.
