You can set it so it does not show the tagline that the message came from your Blackberry. One of the first questions I asked our IT people when getting it set up...

I love mine and yes the firm pays for it since I am on-call 24/7. I kept the tagline. I want people to know that I am not at my desk/phone. They don't need to know where I am or what I am doing.

And yes, even with the tag line off, observant recipients will know that the reply is not from you at your desk due to the font and the fact that your signature line may be different. If you want to make it completely transparent, change your font and signature on Outlook to mirror what your BB can do.

The travel/internet features are an extra service. One that my firm does not pay for. Although I did have a trial subscription to one (Pocket Genie) and loved it. Too expensive for me and since it is not supported by the firm, a pain to maintain and re-install on new devices.

The newest models have a built in phone, but those who tested it here didn't like it.

They are addictive. It's hard for me to hear the buzz and not check the message, so I usually turn it off or leave it at home during dinner/movies/sex/vacation.

That's pussy shit. I send and receive emails on my Sprint phone while driving (in addition to checking the Jays/Raps/Leafs score). And my phone only has the usual 12 keys. Why do words I type inevitably have a lot of c, f, i, l, o, r, s, v, y an z in them? Those take the most presses, and I hate that.

Driving is way too easy. I want to be talking on the phone and taking notes, and playing a video game (preferably an auto-racing game) while driving.

As to blackberries, If I need to respond an email from home I just use my (personal) laptop, I have my work email set up so it automatically checks it, but leaves it on the server so I have a copy at home (unless I delete it) and one at work when I log on in the morning.

So if all people are doing is responding to email from home, blackberries really aren't needed. I refuse to get one because I am not supposed to be on call 24 hours, I already have a cell phone, and dammit, they can just wait.

This is why I don't have clients.

While I agree with the second sentence -- it's why I don't have clients either, which is a problem for those of us in private practice -- I can't check my e-mail from home by dialing in any more. Too many big .pdf and .tif attachments make Jack a sad boy. You can practically see the telephone line bulging as the data packets try to squeeze through. It's like a boa that's eaten a cow.

I find that mine is very convenient for e-mailing my friends, all of whom have them, too. It also allows me to do actual work when trapped in interminable meetings within the office, and has come in handy more than once in a deposition.

When I first got it, it stressed me out because I felt like I had to respond to e-mails immediately. Now, I do not feel compelled to respond to any e-mail after 7 pm or before 9 am, unless it is clear that something has seriously gone up in flames. The best decision I ever made with it was to turn off the buzzer/alarm notification that lets you know a new e-mail has arrived. I check it when I want to (which is probably too often as it is).
