Anybody ever been? Advice, must-do activities?
I plan to go to surf camp for a week and then do other adventures for another week.

Do you dive? And are you committed to staying in Costa Rica or open to jumping to other central American countries?

two good friends of mine went to surf camp in Costa Rico a couple of years ago and loved it (and in particular loved the young latino surf instructors). if there are competing camps, I can find out what one they went to if you care to know. I also have a friend who went through dive instructor certification in Costa Rico within the last couple of years. He was taking a break from working and spent about 6 months down there. I can talk to him about worthwhile things to do also if you like. I think he spent some of that time inland in the rainforests as well.

I have dived but am not certified (resort dives only). I like diving, but love snorkeling, and I am open to jumping anything, er, to anywhere.
And Casey, there are competing surf camps so info. from your friends would be helpful.

A Weekend in London
Other than trying to go to an EPL game (which my sister won't go for) anyone have any fun ideas about what to do in London over Columbus Day weekend?

U.S.V.I.
Anybody have any resort recommendations for the USVI? A friend is thinking of doing a desination wedding. I've passed on a rec from another friend who went to one at the Buccanneer (cheesy name) on St. Croix. I've seen mixed reviews of Caneel Bay (St. Thomas, I think?) There may be some price sensitivity on the accommodations for guests, but he also doesn't want his grandmother staying in some run-down place. Any firsthand experience out there?

In 1956 Ella turned Manhattan into an Isle of Joy. In 2005 Paigow turned SF/SV into a Peninsula of Hate.

Alcatraz sucks. And it's cold. Bring a jacket. Spend as little time there as possible. Your kid will love wine country if you slip him a few sips.
I guess you'll have to do the obligatory Fisherman's Wharf even though that pretty much sucks too.
Other than that, take a spin around the Finanacial district and watch guys pee on the sidewalks.
This message brought to you by the San Fran chamber of commerce.

and yet, oddly, it seems I have to rely on Ty or Paigow for any useful advice to my question.
nfh- alcatraz is cool, and I am not going to fisherman's wharf- maybe we'll walk by to see seals, but that's it.

Surely something in San Francisco doesn't suck as much as all of detroit.
