Check again and see if they have a horse.
I'm helpful.

So, I went to Cabo for one of those time share deals. You know, where you get a week at a (really nice) hotel and only have to sit through a 2 hour pitch and tour of the adjoining time share grounds? I'd do it every time to stay here for $38/night:
Hotel:
Time Share Property:

I spent most of my time at the Time Share Properties pool. Every one of the rooms has a sunset view and a view of the whales who spend December through February playing about 30 yards offshore.
1. It's very difficult to tell if the timeshares are a good deal or not ($10k to $30k for 30 years of week blocks), although I'm leaning on the side of it not being a good deal. But when you're there, looking at these ridiculous time share apartments and listening to the waves and watching the whales, it all sounds so good. If I lived on the west coast, I would definitely get one.
2. Even though you can't swim in the Pacific side, it's much better than the Sea of Cortez side, if only because you don't have to spend every minute of your life turning down peddlers. I thought I'd want to go in the water, but it was nice just sitting on a completely empty beach.
3. Has anyone been to Cabo Wabo or El Squid Roe, because, although they were both recommended, they fucking suck. Silly ass late-middle-aged, drunk, white men and women from California who (think) they are dancing to crap music. The funny shit is watching them trying to hit on my girlfriend, who is definitely not from Cali (and therefore soooo-not-laid-back-in-that-Cali-way) and getting their feelings hurt. Am I missing out on something? Has anyone who's been to these places enjoyed them? What the fuck am I missing?
4. I think if you had a time share, there would be many local places to discover with cheap, good food. But going down for a week is difficult because so much of it is over-priced tourist crap that you can't tell which it's going to be until halfway through the meal.
5. I saw Cinderella Man on the flight on the way back. And although I detest Russell Crowe like a sickness and hate Renee Zelwegger with the fury of a thousand evil, angry suns, I liked it. Neither one got in the way (too much). And the story was pretty good. I was pissed they didn't show him get beaten by Joe Louis, but I suppose that is only a cool ending to a few of us.*
TM
*Read: Me. On another note, I can't wait for the "Hoosiers for the Brothahs" (Glory Road) comes out. How many times do you get to see a team of black basketball players fighting against the odds to beat a bunch of white players? I wonder if the coach calls for the old chain-link-fence play to pull out a win against an especially tough team?
|
In your sentence -- "Silly ass late-middle-aged, drunk, white men and women from California who (think) they are dancing to crap music." -- I think you probably want to have the word "they" on the inside of the parentheses.
Otherwise, thank you for your colorful and informative post.

I wouldn't adopt a horse because I wouldn't want him to get an inferiority complex.

Cabo Wabo is like a Hard Rock for the tourist crowd there. I've spent a grand total of 1/2 hour in there ever. And I go to Cabo at least once a year. Never been to El Squid Roe.
There's a tacky bar in the courtyard outside of Cabo Wabo that has ridiculously cheap beer (and they gave me a free Budweiser cow-patterned cowboy hat for no apparent reason the last time I was there - wanted to keep it for some future Halloween costume, but I'm pretty sure I parted company with it sometime later in the night's festivities that night) and the rickety Mexico bar vibe. I recommend that place and the (purported) smallest bar in the world, which is in Cabo. Especially if you are in a group of 10 or so people and you can force the tacky cruiseboat tourists who are there out the door quickly. I'll have to get the name of the place from one of my friends, because I'm blanking on it right now, but it makes for a good evening. You can pick your music from the CDs behind the bar and make small talk with the bartendress all evening, while only being annoyed by your own drunk friends, instead of by drunk strangers.
Going to Cabo Wabo and El Squid Roe is the equivalent of going to Senor Frogs in Cancun. Who recommended those places?* People at the hotel?
*(please don't tell me it was Mr Man)
ETA: smallest bar = Slim's Elbow Room

2. Flower's only real complaint about that bitch is insufficient polyestrous.

We had a drink in there. It was fun until one other person came in and I felt crowded.

You ain't kiddin', sister. I guess we just wanted to see why they were such a big draw. We still don't know.
Someone at the firm (middle-aged, not-so-corny,-or-so-I-thought white guy -- an east coast Mr. Man?) and a few people at the resort recommended those places.
Since you go down once a year, would you ever consider getting a time share there? I was really thinking about it, but I think if I ever got one, it would be on the Carribean, because the flights were not fun.
