Very cold. Not as cold as Seattle, but coooollllllddddd. My water feature* was frozen this morning and the birds could not drink their morning water.
*this still cracks me up. In Washington, we call these fountains.

I'm not in PR, alas. We have a thingy there and need to discuss benefits for the people who work at the thingy.
It's about 55 here in LA.

(um, that is all from one post.) Shocking that people don't like to argue with you. We all must be crazy.

Too bad. I'll bet you wished you were in Puerto Rico. I sure do. In fact I wish I was anywhere but here, where it's 52 degrees and 58% humidity, winds out of the northwest at 17 mph gusting at 23 mph. We'll be back with traffic after this message. A woman microwaved her baby. What the hell?
Oh, by the way, the Seahawks won last night in the snow. Can you believe it? Snow!

Do you disagree that my intial posts were respectful. He was the one who got personal first. Then I responded in kind. Later I dropped the personal attacks and he kept them up.
Have you ever known me to make a personal attack when someone has not done so to me first?
Am I wrong?

Hasselbeck was lucky or good to be able to turn around that awful first half. I've given up discussing football for the season though. I have no team until Coughlin is gone.

I think the real issues that you should address are: (1) do you like chatty asian chicks and (2) do you like junk in the trunk? Because if yes to (1) and (2) above, I think I have possibly stumbled upon the salvation of the FB (other than my iStab product).

I exaggerate the opposite-of-aggravating circumstances there, but sometimes it seems like one needs to exaggerate in certain discussions, or one will have the specific example one chose refuted and the other participant in the discussion will count it as a win on his or her part.

I'm glad you don't try to get substantive too often, because if you did PPNYC would start looking pretty coherent, pretty quickly. Guys would make fun of me for my crush.

Do you think my statement:
"I believe in individual responsiblity, not familial or racial responisibilty. Am I responsible for my father's sins? - no. Am I responsible for the sins other people of my race have committed? - no.
Racism cannot be justified because you have been a victim of racism (or that other people of your race have been victims). Racism or racial slurs are either wrong or they are not."
was not worth defending?
Do you think his response to my statement was correct or justified?
"I'm not going to spend too much time on this because I think it's pointless, but historical racism is responsible for the current state of affairs in this country. The stigma attached to being black permeates every aspect of life, from what socio-economic class you're born into, to your job prospects, to your everyday social interactions (especially with the police). Likewise, the position you're in if you're white, relative to black people, is a result of the same, whether your family came here yesterday or 200 years ago.
So don't give me that load of bullshit about slavery happening long ago and how you weren't personally involved. No one is accusing you of intentionally trying to benefit from it and no one is making you personally responsible for it. But the imprint of the impact of slavery, jim crow and everyday racism from the beginning of the slave trade until now is felt every single day. You can choose to walk around pretending that that time is long over, because the only negative impact you feel is when, as pony said, a black person can feel comfortable making a racial joke at your expense because of the truth of historical racism and who it affects. And look at the fit you throw when someone even mentions the prospect."

for the love of god, am I ignore? or do you not trust my advice? listen- having a long drawn out fight with TM can be of some value. like battle scars or something. I'm not so sure a long fight with GGG elevates you so much.
