So, on an unrelated note, I took one of my boys (not as in one of my boys, I mean as in one of my male children) to a barber shop today to get his hair cut. There is this kids' hair salon that is pretty cool, because they have video games for the kids to sit doped-out in front of so that they keep their heads still while their hair gets cut, but it's $35 for a hair cut. So I took him to the Dominican (as in DR, not some nuns or something) barber shop, where it's a much more reasonably priced affair ($15). There were all these older dudes just hanging out in the barber shop talking to one another (who mentioned to each other how ridiculous it was that the place across the street charges $35 for a kid's haircut - I chimed in that's why I was at the barber shop - and it got big laughs - I think it wasn't very funny, they were just being polite). Just a bunch of mostly older Dominican dudes sitting around shooting the breeze.
What was strange about all this is that it felt oddly nostalgic. And I didn't grow up in a barber shop.

barber shops are great. the one bitch I have is they all stopped shaving guys before I started shaving. watch the godfather or other movies and there are guys getting shaved. it looks very relaxing but I've only once gotten a shave- and they cut me bad.

Are you really addressing this to me? It is shocking how well you can convince yourself tht you are a martyr. THe fact that over 50% of the people who you interact with here have a problem with your "discussion" style reflects poorly on all of them, right? No blame can be put on you.
In answer to your question, yes, you made things personal with me when I had not taken them there. I made a couple of jokes directed in your direction (beginning with finding it funny that you think you "chase skirts", I believe) and you called me bitter and alleged that I must have had horrible relationship experiences that made me that way. Do you recall this? Do you know anything about my dating history? Do you know me? What was it that made those comments appropriate exactly?
You don't have to answer this. Those were really rhetorical questions. But you should think about why you feel the need to characterize your actions in the way that you do, when your characterizations run clearly contrary to the way most of the people here perceive your actions. In your mind we are all just wrong. That is the only possible answer, right?

Exactly. Substantively is the operative word there. You have made comments but you have not mentioned whether you think my position is justified.

Spanky just needs to keep it lighter here, that's all. We all have a bright future here. The PB is like Mordor without the hope of the 1 ring (hi RT!) to save everyone from the dark lord. Spank needs to keep his FB face PB-free.

I'm in line for a prescription today. There isa very drugged out looking guy ahead of me. He's telling the pharmacist that his wife "lost the bottle" and need a refill. Pharmacist says "I just filled a 3 month Xanax prescription 3 days ago for her. You aren't getting any more."
People take Xanax to get high? My wife takes them to fly (thanks Via Rail) but when I told this story she was shocked that people would try to get high from them.

They were not just jokes, they were jokes made at my expense. Then I made some jokes at your expense. If you can't take it don't dish it out. I would not have made jokes at your expense if you hadn't done the same to me.
How do most of the people here perceive my actions? You clearly have an opinion but are you sure they are shared by most of the board? That is quite a strong statement: "most of the peope here".
There are a few people here who don't like my posts but that is because, I believe like you, they just don't like to take in what they dish out. However, I could be wrong. A great many people have encouraged me to get involved on the fashion board. When I have gone a while without posting to the FB many posters have brought this up to me. Do these same people share your opinion? I don't think so. Anyway, what you are telling me is not the same message I am getting from other quarters.

Spanky:
Maybe I should take this to the politics board, but this is pure hypocritical B.S. I believe in individual responsiblity, not familial or racial responisibilty. Am I responsible for my father's sins? - no. Am I responsible for the sins other people of my race have committed? - no.
Racism cannot be justified because you have been a victim of racism (or that other people of your race have been victims). Racism or racial slurs are either wrong or they are not.
TM:
I'm not going to spend too much time on this because I think it's pointless, but historical racism is responsible for the current state of affairs in this country. The stigma attached to being black permeates every aspect of life, from what socio-economic class you're born into, to your job prospects, to your everyday social interactions (especially with the police). Likewise, the position you're in if you're white, relative to black people, is a result of the same, whether your family came here yesterday or 200 years ago.
So don't give me that load of bullshit about slavery happening long ago and how you weren't personally involved. No one is accusing you of intentionally trying to benefit from it and no one is making you personally responsible for it. But the imprint of the impact of slavery, jim crow and everyday racism from the beginning of the slave trade until now is felt every single day. You can choose to walk around pretending that that time is long over, because the only negative impact you feel is when, as pony said, a black person can feel comfortable making a racial joke at your expense because of the truth of historical racism and who it affects. And look at the fit you throw when someone even mentions the prospect.

My doctor is very focused on how much I take (how often, whole vs. half pill). I am not sure if it is addictive, or it's easy to build up a resistance, or what. You could probably google it. I take it on average maybe 1 or 2 times a week, and take half a pill.Apparently this is well within the range of acceptable.

Tell me which part of these two posts are "jokes made at my expense" because maybe I don't understand your use of the word "joke". Are you using it in a sense of the word that can be found in a typical dictionary?
Quote:
I am sensing a little hostility? Have I said something to offend you? Why are you such a bitter woman?
|
Quote:
Even in your denial of hostility you are hostile. What has happened to you to make you so bitter? Bad dating history?
|
For the record (as if it matters), I was not being hostile with you. I was joking with you. At your expense is a fine characterization too. People do that here all the time. You made it personal. But you will continue to refuse to recognize this. Because it doesn't fit in with your characterization of yourself.

I know. Good thing we have a running back now. And speaking of, Tiki is not doing as well fantasy-wise, as I had hoped. Coughlin should use him more. But that's just my selfish .02. I am sorry for your loss. I am also sorry that Jake Plummer lost his job after taking his team to 7-4. I only hope that Jay Cutler is not used to the pace of the NFL just yet. It's been a rough year for quarterbacks.
