Johnny Damon said the same thing before seeing the $$ offered by the Yankees.

That offer would still be the most lucrative managerial contract out there - one he'll never match.

An option that vests automatically if you just win the AL - not the WS. And not much to require either.

Any sympathy Torre had just evaporated in a NY minute.
In other words, you confirm that they did this in a play to NY fans.

I guess we shall see.
yankee fan question: for those not at the last game, afte A-rod hit the homer they showed him in the dugout, he seemed a bit too upbeat talking to teammates. I wasn't sure whether to take it as the acceptable "C'mon guys we can hit this guy!" Or whether it was more the unacceptable "Yeah, i hit a home run! Contract extension!"

Slave, which was it?

The Sox are about the last team that needs Rivera, given that they have Papelbon. I'm not saying they don't need him at all, since he's an excellent pitcher and would be an excellent set-up guy, but there are lots of teams in MLB without a decent closer, and the Sox have other things to spend money on first.

If they paid me that much money, I be willing to let Hank's geriatric barber shave me every day.

Halloweeeeeen!!

When I was ordering my kids' costumes on line (don't ask...), I figured I'd buy myself one, too. They had some funny ones, and they were not expensive.

So, I did get the go-go girl getup, and just now I realized that it looks a lot like Paisley's avatar. The dress isn't too bad, actually, the wig is hilarious, and the boots I'm sure won't last more than a wearing or two (but who cares? it was cheap).

The BEST news is that today I found out that I actually can wear it somewhere (other than to work, natch). One of the kids from my eldest's school is having a Halloween party, and in talking to his dad today, I discovered that it's for the whole family, costumes expected.

Woohoo!

I were going to be in Boston for Halloween, that would be one scary costume. OTOH, I might get myself hurt.

Or you could join our group costume - the mob that's hunting him down.

Or one of the many balls hit off his pitches that are orbiting the Earth.

Plus, both Omar Vizquel ($5.1MM) and Pedro Feliz ($5.1MM) are free agents. That means over 1/2 of their this year's salary of $90MM is free. $30MM per for ARod might be steep, but I would pay $25MM in a heartbeat if only for replacing the butts in the seats that were there mostly to see Bonds.
Jesus man, are you trying to kill me? I just got over seeing Barry Bonds's face every night for the past year and now you want to kill me with A-Rod?

Aren't the fans still mad about overpaying for Zito? Which I still don't understand why the Giants did that - it's like they never saw him in Oakland.

Shirtless shopping at Abercrombie & Fitch.
  • . . . After about 15 minutes, the Abercrombie management decided it was time to kick us out. Security employees started approaching all of our men and asking them to either put a shirt on or leave. . . .

(spree: plenty of pictures of topless men)

The Mets could sure use Torre. And A-Rod. And anyone else who seems to have an actual desire to play baseball. And occassionally win.
I'll take Torre. We haven't had a coach since Piniella left.

I'd love to see Torre in a Mariners uniform (the real uniform, not the Moose, though that might be entertaining, too). Not sure it's the best fit for him, though. Seems, from the left coast anyway, that his strength is managing egos and not getting in the way of the talent. How would he do with young talent and a mid-market payroll?
