Shhhh. We don't want them to know it can be done. I'll meet you in the transporter and we can talk about money management and stuff.

And if I were involved with someone, I would be pissed if she wanted to break up with me out of the blue; once you've been with someone for a while I think that you owe it to them to actually discuss and try to address issues.

It sounds like Sunny tried to address important things and he just blew her off; he sounds like the childish one here.

Oh, just shut up...are you up for a shag or what?

I guess that's not the same as actively realizing that they don't know whether permanence is likely, but it's at least a reckless disregard for the prospect of a marriage failing. The vast majority of the couples I know who were married in the few years after (or before) graduation from college are divorced or separated now, and a bunch of them are in that position because they didn't even talk about things like money management, kids , where they wanted to live, etc.

Dude, the guys just a pleasure seeking pig.

Oops, and I forgot to mention after he and his buddies drank basecamp dry, the sherpas sent the yaks down and restocked the beer supply...shit he had it better than home. Ass.

Weird. At age nine, you already knew you were going to be a socially maladjusted, pseudo-angst ridden, bitter drunk? Kudos to you for sticking it out this long.

I totally agree, but most people I know talked about these things, couldn't resolve them and decided that getting married would magically fix things. That's what happens when people get married at 23, I guess. To a person, the couples I know all wish that they had discussed these things until they were blue in the face when they were 22, instead of just getting married as a panacea to long-term disagreements...

I was speaking more to Hank's fact pattern (Hi RP!) than your situation.

But I was also trying to point out how it was possible for you to see, like a lightning bolt, that you did not want his brand of self-centeredness in your life.

In my experience, these things tend not to be out of the blue, though no one necessarily sat down and explained the breach and left for an explicit cure period.

We lawyers really have to be careful with our frames of reference and our choices of words. Non-laywers, particularly those with whom you are intimate, hate this shit.
See, it's taken 10 years or so, but I've learned to make these jokes only on a lawyers board and not at parties.
