Don't be silly. That's exactly what it means. Now go get some rest. You look tired.

Well, NY was a blue state.

Is it so hard for you to admit that your side didn't win because a majority of the population believes in its economic message (I barely remember hearing an economic message over the last several months, the focus was on everything else)?

I'd like to see the middle of the country come together and do some serious bipartisan work to come up with the optimal (balancing cost and effectiveness) way to run the country's infrastructure, manage natural resources, educate kids, take care of the needy and defend the country. But there is so much polarization I don't have a lot of hope for that.

You are wrong on this. The evangelicals, like Bush, take what the bible says regarding the jews seriously.

2. There is no way in hell we are ever going to win with an attitude that half the country is worthless and of no value. Howard Dean was laughed at for suggesting that the Dems need to start talking to the guy in Georgia with the Confederate Flag sticker on the back of his car. We wrote him off years ago, and that was stupid as hell. I know these people. I grew up with them. They sneer at ya'll as much as you sneer at them. But there are more of them. There's a hell of a lot of common ground, but everyone spends so much time on the differences that commonalities are swept under the rug.

I was actually trying to be funny there. By telling you what's good for you.

And my rants, FWIW, are filled with hyperbole.

What you don't realize is that I'm probably closer to you politically than the person you voted for yesterday. You didn't vote for a Republican.

Further to my earlier quotation of William Saletan, this piece of his in Slate today is very good. Democrats need to think of their agenda and mission in terms of values, not policies, instead of thinking of values as the window-dressing for policy. Voters who read the New York Times carefully can focus on policy details. For the rest of us, it all has to fit into a simpler, coherent message.

When I talked to him today, he said that he just looked at the people walking down the street, wondering why they all hate him. He's a smart, educated, productive member of society. He pays his taxes, gives back to the community, spends a lot of his time working with not-for-profits. He can get along with anyone, and they hate him because they're afraid of him.

I can guarantee that he's much more afraid of what they might do to him than they are of what he could do to them.

And the thing that pisses me off about it is that their fears were being played to in an effort to get out the vote. 95 percent of the population could give a fuck whether my brother gets to see his boyfriend in the hospital, or inherit money from him, or participate in the same health plan. But the issue was drawn to their attention by this election, and when they thought about it, they got scared over some stupid concept of the "sanctity" of marriage.

You should have seen some of the ads the Poe campaign was running. It makes me sick.

I disagree with your statement, but not such a great Israeli policy compared to whose Israeli policy? Carter's? Clinton's? Lyndon Johnson's?

No, it really is about Israel. For the fundamentalist Christians (i.e., Christian Zionists or Jesus fucks as they are called here on the PB), they believe that Israel is the fulfillment of a biblical prophecy and without Israel, Christ won't return. For others in the Rep party, we see Israel as a democracy and look at what the alternative would be without Israel - another arab state run by thugs and a breeding ground for terrorists.

Moreover, we recognize the parallels between the european presence in North America and the existence of Israel. I'm not giving my land back to native americans. We already know where RT stands on this - she is fighting for the land her people stole. How about you? You giving yours back?

Only my ass can respond to the inane point that the rich states should have their votes count more.

Sure, in principle I'm all for that proposition, and rich people should have their votes count more too, but I can't reconcile those views with the current structure of our democratic (little D) system.

Off to the U.A.E.! Tally ho!

How you can tell that Senator Frist keeps his underwear on in the locker room:

  • Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist said it looked likely Republicans would have a total of 55 Senate seats, and add at least three seats in the House, which would raise their total there to 230.

"It really is monumental. Nobody expected that. It is huge," Frist told CNN, describing the election results as "a huge endorsement of the president of the United States."
