I can see cornbread crumbs, but the wheat bread crumbs have never done it for me. They get too soggy. Does she do anything to break up that soggy wet crumb texture?

I think that's where the baking comes in, but I'd have to check. I stay out of the stuffing discussions and stick to the side dishes and desserts.

She makes an awesome, awesome gravy, though.

I assume most people agree on the cranberry, oranges, pecans and sugar in a food processor method of making cranberry sauce? Though the stuff out of the can (smooth, not lumpy) is a perfectly acceptable alternative cranberry sauce.

I got bad news today about a family member - while it is nothing we can't deal with or that wasn't expected sooner or later, just hearing the shit people like you say behind people's back, while you spend hours a day posting on an internet board, is sickening.

Pass the fat boy.
There are congressmen out there trying to molest young boys, people breaking into cars to steal breeder's puppies, people sold into sexual slavery on the minute, smugglers trying to sheist poor illegals, and you are trying to tell me *I* am an unmitigated ass for admitting while life is hard sometimes I get overloaded when people dump their problems on me too?

Good for you if so.

AoN, I like apricot and cranberry stuffing made with twice baked bread chunks from our gourmet store. and chutneyed cranberry sauce and garlic/cream mashed potatos. and none of those nasty brown and serve rolls from a can. bleh. fresh baked bread. I hate cranberry sauce from a can. the lines signify bad cranberry sauce.

My mom generally uses croutons, not bread crumbs, which avoids the soggy problem pretty well--they come out nicely softened.

We don't use nuts, but my mom did* make what you describe, as well as a cooked kind. I am fine with the stuff in the can, smooth or lumpy.

*she has said she will be making no more Thanksgiving dinners. My dad will be in Canada** next week, so she definitely isn't making anything this year.

You cook that, right?

We sometimes use wallnuts instead of pecans, but yes.

Just cranberries and sugar, cooked til they pop for my cranberry sauce. The popping always delights the kids.

Ours too. It's almost like finely grated in texture. Not sure how it was accomplished before food processors.

**Hi gwinky!
Hi!

I am cooking Thanksgiving dinner with my boyfriend's mother in the wilds of CT. Unlike my former mother-in-law, she actually likes me!

I am leaving stuffing decisions up to her. I am responsible for brussel sprouts, onion tart (hi bn'b!) and pumpkin strudels.

When in the last 10 years has a failed negotiation with Boras ever been blamed on someone other than Boras? (For that matter, when has a successful negotiation with Boras ever been blamed on someone other than Boras--hi ARod?) The team in Japan is going to blame the Sox not Boras? What do they care, other than they don't get their money and keep their player? Their fans will be happy anyway--they might even like Boras for that reason, but not hate the Red Sox.
Yeah, you're probably right. No one will write articles about the brilliant blocking tactics Theo employed by bidding so high for an unproven player and then purposely tanking the negotiations so they don't have to pay, while still keeping a player in his prime away from the Yankees. And the Japanese team probably doesn't want that $51 million for a player they're paying $3 mil for for another year or two. They shouldn't care at all. That's probably why they agreed to post him, because they would rather keep him. Brilliant.

And you can say Boras will stear his clients to the Yankees, but you know he won't. He'll say he is, if it helps negotiations, or he'll say he isn't, so that it doesn't scare off other bidders. Boras is cutthroat, and won't play favorites.
I think it will be pretty clear to Boras exactly how serious the Sox are during negotiations. And, your expert opinion notwithstanding, I don't think he'll be thrilled to be toyed with. He does the toying. I'm sure if he had similar offers on the table from the Yanks and the Sox (a not quite unbelievable scenario) after getting fucked by Theo, he'll have his guy sign with the Yanks. And he still gets to be cutthroat and won't lose a cent.

That's cranberry relish, not cranberry sauce. G^3 is right about making your own--it's so easy you'll wonder why you would ever buy it from a can. Cranberries are naturally very high in pectin, so you just cook them with sugar and maybe a little water, then do whatever to get them to the right consistency. My mom always ran them through the food mill, which removed skins but not seeds, but you could leave them all in there for a more jam-like effect.

Do kids really enjoy Thanksgiving? I always feel like it is warm up for Christmas. The food is good...but....

And for Christmas do y'all do turkey again? or Filet/lobster for the Italians, and something else for evereyone else?

OK.

I think my mom puts cloves in with the cranberries when she cooks them (and is not making something fancy). I mean put. In the past tense. And it's possible my dad is responsible for cooked cranberry menu items.

Pumpkin pie or apple pie?
