Start well below. Any team that pays above $20m less than the yankees offer is willing to pay ARod more than the yankees are. I don't think it will happen: first, few teams are capable of paying what the yankees are able; fewer still are willing to do it, even if they're capable. It's even less likely that another team would be willing to go $20m more than the yankees.
Of course, Boras managed to get $52m out of the Red Sox for a #3 starter, even though they were bargaining against themselves and already were starting at $51m, so who knows?
The only reason it makes sense to leave is even though the yankees would pay more in the near term, Arod wants a 10 year contract and the yankees are willing to only, say, 7 years.

Here's a question that is equally as fascinating as any of the other basebal questions thata have been befouling the board the last week or so. If Jeter or A-Rod or Gange play like total horseshit, cana their teams really argue that their outrageous salaries are based upon performance, or are they in danger of having the dedustion denied as excess compensation pursuant to IRC Section 162(m)?

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to do it in quite awhile, but I recently became "lucid" in a dream, but wasn't able to control the events.

I had one last night. You were not in it. Buddy Guy was. At a later point, the associate I have been sharing a conference room with all week made a lengthy appearance as well. Discretion forbids me to say more.

Yes. For a long time, they were my normal dream. Now I have the same stress dream over and over again. I'm on the beach and can't quite get out of the pull of the waves and on to dry land. There is always a building or dock or boat that is just out of reach, so I can't grab it or get behind it to safety. Those dreams suck. I wake up exhausted, but at least I don't have all that sand in my bathing suit.

Does anyone own one of these? Apparently it has an "instant orgasm" setting.
I'm intrigued.

I woke up two and a half hours after my alarm went off, clutching (in the hand twisted under me) the clock-type item that I had meant to reset the alarm on for an hour later, from a horrible stress dream, with my arm all stiff and my shoulders and neck tense.
Whee!

Yeah, I've had lucid dreams since I was a child. I don't think it's that rare. I can control the events in my dreams in about half of the dreams that I remember. But I remember fewer dreams now than when I was younger.
When I was in college, the professor of my Altered States class tried to teach the class how to lucid dream. He said you needed to concentrate on what you wanted to dream about right before you went to sleep. But I've never had to do that. I don't remember if anybody in my class "learned" how to lucid dream but I'm sure a few lied about it and said they did. That class was full of posers.
We also did a stupid mass class hypnosis-type thing where we were supposed to go on a journey in our heads and find our spirit animals. At the end of the class, everybody is talking about the tigers and otters and other stupid spirit animals they found. Only two of us were honest enough to call bullshit and say that we didn't see a damn thing.

The wiki entry describes "sleep paralysis" as such:
"During REM sleep the body is paralyzed by a mechanism in the brain, because otherwise the movements which occur in the dream would actually cause the body to move. However, it is possible for this mechanism to be triggered before, during, or after normal sleep while the brain awakens. This can lead to a state where a person is lying in his or her bed and he or she feels frozen. Hypnagogic hallucinations may occur in this state, especially auditory ones. Experiencing sleep paralysis is a necessary part of WILD."
Happens to me all the time and freaks me out when I think I'm awake and can't move. It only happens when I'm on my back. In fact, I may only dream when I'm on my back.

What an idiot I was. I took calculus and physics and shit in college. I could have been lucid dreaming. What the hell is an Altered States class?
