He's long gone. Ask rp.
I'll get someone to explain it earlier. I'm guessing that you were not, in fact, insulting me.

My wife's main prof at college was an immigrant from mainland China. He came here at 19 to study engineering. When he was in China he had been studying to become a painter. One night at dinner he told me about it.
In traditional Chinese painting one learns to paint one base image- and you must learn and follow all the rules within a tight construct. One might paint bamboo, fog mountains, herons, flowers, etc. But one would only paint one of those throughout one's career.
He was tapped to paint chrysanthemums. Every painting had to be basically the same as the last, but the trick was to include subtle variations. Each painting was beautiful on it's own, and only faded when looked at next to another. Still, by the time he was 19 he decided it would be too limiting a life and left for America.
My point is, that just because the one guy found the artform limiting, doesn't mean that the posters here who basically regurgitate the same joke over and over should feel sheepish. To the contrary, you have precedent from an important field of art. People have been doing the same "painting " for 3000 years for goodness sakes. Carry on!

You know, Hank speaks the truth. When I was exploring Lascaux, I happened upon a very detailed painting depicting a couple of hunters just back from the hunt, and one of them was peeing on the other's sister. Some things are just universal, I guess. Kudos, Hank.

You found "peace be with you" to be more squicky than:
- The Lord be with you.
R: And also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
R: We lift them up to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
R: It is right to give him thanks and praise.
That's some pretty fascist shit right there, especially when you hear 600 people say it in unison. I think your priorities are fucked up if you think "peace be with you" is worse than that shit.

Listen, being able to parrot shit back is part of the whole experience. It's like singing the damn hymns that no one knows the words to. But having to shake hands with a stranger and say peace be with you - dude are you that immune? That's just weird. That's worse than eating crackers and drinking wine that hundreds of other people have spit in.

It would be prudent to drop the hand-shaking part during flu season. I may stop taking communion until Spring because people take the bread from a communal plate and dip it in a communal glass of "wine." I am particularly susceptible to upper respiratory illnesses and will be more so without a flu shot.
Speaking of communion, I noticed last time that my church offers a gluten-free option.

Ya know, I haven't quite figured out why everyone thinks they need a flu shot these days.
If you are extra sensitive, that makes sense, but I thought that they shots were not recommended for healthy adults.
