  • Buddhist monks 'slashed, beat taxi driver'
    From correspondents in Phnom Penh

    July 18, 2006
    This article from : AAP

FOUR gambling Cambodian monks were charged with serious assault after they allegedly slashed and beat a taxi driver who tried to cash in his winning hand and go home, police said.

Police chief of Kien Svay district just outside the capital, Mang Pech, said motorbike taxi driver Meas Buntheng, 29, had been playing cards with the monks last week at their pagoda when he decided to take his winnings and go home.

"The monks did not want him to stop playing and leave, as he had won around 50 cents from each of them, so they lost their tempers," Mr Pech said.

"Three of them beat him with the poles used to beat the pagoda's sacred gong, and another one returned with a cleaver and chopped him 14 times."

He said Mr Buntheng remained in a critical condition in hospital.

The four Buddhist monks had been disrobed and were being held in custody facing assault charges. If convicted they face up to 10 years in jail.

"Both sides got angry with each other, but it was the monks who inflicted the injuries. Monks are not permitted to play cards. Monks cannot behave like this. This is against our tradition," Mr Pech said.
This sounds a lot like Str8's "second" gambling story.

Seriously, what the fuck did all you people do before Starbucks? Can no one function on an 6-8 ounce cup of coffee anymore?

Starbucks doesn't have anything smaller than 12 ounces, do they? And it goes up to 20 ounces? Jesus.

http://zengame.com/photos/starbucks01.jpg

I don't drink coffee and I'm sure as hell not holier-than-thou w/r/t coffee drinkers. I just don't understand how the whole country can be programmed into thinking they need 20-40 ounces of coffee (at $5 a shot) every day to function when not that long ago there was only one (small) size for coffee.

And it isn't just coffee. When I go to McDonalds, I don't need 42 ounces of soda. Or 32, or 21 or even 16 (unless I'm really thirsty). The smallest size at McDonalds is the size of a can of soda. And outside of a conference room, do people even drink cans of soda anymore? 16 Ounces seems to be the new standard.

This isn't a SuperSize Me rant. I just don't understand how anyone can drink this much liquid that isn't beer. I always throw away soda. And when I order and ask for the smallest size, they look at me like I've lost my mind.

Cashier: "It's only seventy five cents for another 30 ounces."

Me: "But I don't want another 30 ounces."

Cashier: "But it's only seventy five cents!"

What the fuck?

order the 'like it" size at ColdStone- same thing "you can get the whatever is next size for only .30$ more!"

But then I get fatter and couldn't eat ice cream for a long time- think about that Ms. Counterperson.

then they really aren't practiced to make a "like it" size, so they spill it into the next bigger bowl or have it bulge out the top so you get more anyway.

My early favorites Toby and Magni, are still the strongest competitors.

I still hate Dilana. The Witchie-poo hair does not help the image that she's going to take off on her broom at any time while she's on stage. I don't know why the "band" really loves her, but there it is.

Still hate Zayra. What was with the see through evening gown? They were too nice to her, almost as if someone had said to go easy on her. She still sucks and if she's not gone this week, it'll be next week.

Storm Large? Sorry Ollie, I don't see it. She loves herself way too much and the pouty-I'm-trying-to-be-sexy rocker thing she's trying to pull off is forced.

Josh sounded a lot like Kermit last night. He got better toward the end of the song, but he's no rocker. He's a better musician than the others, but is not a good fit for the band.

Dana - too mellow. She's gone in the next week or 2 as well.

Lukas - I'm not into him. He's a little too theatric and I hate the hair and the makeup. Both together is comical.
The others are all generic mostly.
I am lukewarm at best on Toby. He had good song selection before last night, but he really doesn't strike me as a good fit for the band. Too DKE house frat boy looking and not a lot in the way of stage presence (IMO).

I could see Magni and I could also see Phil (though he'd need a less boring name than Phil for it to really work out). Both of them are somewhat believable in their heavy alt rock performances. As for the women, most of them have strong voices, but only Storm and maybe Patrice have the right vibe for the band.

Dilana sucks ass. I totally hate her and I don't think that they should have praised her for what she did to Zombie last night. That song could have been so much better if one of the other women had done it. I am so over her.

Song selection - bizarre. Why wasn't every person in the house fighting for the STP song (or, in the case of the women, Zombie or the Jefferson Starship song). Do they not get at all what these guys are repetitively telling them?

Zayra. I have nothing to ass. Get her out of there. Now. She should be fired for that song choice alone, but she really should have been gone last week anyway.

I'm also way over the band's (and Dave's) critiques and I'm not sure I can make it through an entire season of that dreck. "I want to see more of you..." etc. Creepy old men is how they come off. Ugh.

Real men and serious coffee drinkers go straight up espresso. Triple. Word!

As for Starbucks, while I couldn't care less about anything having anything to do with MLB, the NBA, the NFL, the NHL, the NCAA and/or europansyfootsoccerball, Howard Schultz can suck off the dingleberries clung to the tuft surrounding my redeye just for trying to hijack my tax dollars for his own megalomania (no offence slave).

No more Starbucks for me. Or Seattle's Best. My fucking secretary can hoof it the extra block to fetch me some Tullys.

I often buy the 8 oz cans of soda at the store. Anything more than a 12 oz can is too much. Then again, I only drink one soda a day (with lunch). Beer/wine with dinner. I also only order the small coffee at Starbucks, which, as Burger stated, isn't that bad of a deal ($1.6X?)

Tea at Starbuck's is reasonably priced as well. But not as cheap as the free tea in my break room at work, so I typically go with that.

I would take as large a tea as I could get my hands on, but I usually settle for 12 oz at a time at work (I buy venti at Starbuck's though). The larger the better because it is my water substitute - I drink non-caffinated herbals and I keep myself hydrated that way because I can't force myself to drink enough plain water while I'm at work.

However if I tried to drink a large coffee product, I'm pretty sure my stomach would be seriously pissed at me.

I think tea as well as coffee makes depletes you of hydration so you should try to drink some plain water if you can.

I think you don't know what the fuck you are talking about. Did I not say non-caffinated herbals? Tell me what could possibly be dehydrating about mint or chamomile tea, oh wise one.

Actually that (the idea that caffeine is deyhrdrating) has been debunked recently, as well as the idea that everyone must drink gallons of water a day or risk dire consequences.

ETA a link, for those without google skills, from a Brand Name Hospital!!

I don't know about dehydration, but maybe if you had some caffeine you wouldn't be so mean to the FB's most helpful poster.
