Speaking of which, what the fuck is up with people going to English pubs on St. Patrick's day and fucking Bass pimping their beer for St. Pats? Some morning show here was doing it from "The Englander" for Pat's sake.

"A curse upon you Oliver Cromwell
You who raped our Motherland
I hope you're rotting down in hell
For the horrors that you sent
To our misfortunate forefathers
Whom you robbed of their birthright
"To hell or Connaught" may you burn in hell tonight"

Alarmingly, I am actually wearing no green (and some orange) today. Not on purpose, mind, it just sort of was what I grabbed when I woke up. And I didn't forget it was St. Pat's day, either, I just managed to forget that one wears green.

And not orange.

Huh.

There is a connection here, if by UT you mean the University of Tennessee, and not Texas.

The Tennessee Volunteers relates to a regiment in the civil war that was made of Scotch-Irish Protestants. The name Volunteers is one often used by military groups associated with the Protestants of Northern Ireland, i.e. the Ulster Volunteers.

It was shorter on the ad. Yep, it's gorgeous out, and I've camped in front of the TV.

I heard that this morning - they were in the pub at 7:00. I hope they weren't already drinking or they're done for by now. I did enjoy steakhouse or gay bar. It's amazing the number of steakhouses that sound like gay bars and the number of people who just can't tell the obvious. The black light. Really? Does that sound like a steakhouse?

Yes. Most women are scared of it.

I read it the other way around.

We were watching it last night. Motivated not by St. Patricks day but rather by American Idol's suggestion of white people doing soul. It's been out on DVD long enough that I can't remember when I bought it; I bet if they're advertising it now it's related to St. Pat's.

It's all part of the drunken debauchery brought to you by Corporate America, where commerce completely separates the event from the celebration. See also Cinco de Mayo, etc.

I'm not Catholic, but have had recommended to me that the place to go on St. Patrick's Day evening is a Chinese restaurant. It's one of the few places that the teeming hordes out to drink, piss, and eventually swim in green beer won't think to come to (and bother you).

I will tell you for a fact, as I look out my window, that the teeming hordes are fun to watch.

(Ooo - another one just fell into the construction hole. Cool.)

You may be reading their reaction (jaw dropping, hand over mouth, pointing and running while laughing (not screaming) hysterically) the wrong way around too.

If I just let the softballs whoosh on past, I'd be letting the team down for my own ego, and that's not right.

Pretty woman ambling along, stumbles into my lap at the outdoor table, hands me her beer, giggles, says "I don't think I need this one anymore."

This is the traditional sign that spring is coming.
I thought it was a baggins family reunion. Except for the pretty woman thing, I mean.

Mtv Reality Shows Dream about seeing Joe Hill

That is such bullshit. Organized labor has been on life support since Ronald Reagan. Blaming the AFL-CIO for the decline of Philly is about 30 years out of date. (It was wrong then, too, but whatever.)

Podunkville is a non-union town, and people and business have been fleeing to the suburbs for, oh, the last 50 years or so. Personally, I think that it has something to do with yards and grass. But I could be wrong.

As to the original post (about MTV pulling out of Philly because the Real World house got picketed for using non-union labor), the AFL-CIO should have picketed because it's a stupid show. Why don't you people read a fricken book or something.
