Here's the best I could find. I haven't seen them since Sydney.

Why don't you watch a game and find out?

I assume the NYC FBers are the exception to the rule

That happens. A lot of clients like that. But there's plenty of NY lawyers that who act that way naturally or who only have practice negotiating that way. This does them and their clients little good on a deal when their clients lack leverage. And the client is forced to cave every time the lawyer starts acting like a prick about getting something or giving something they don't really need.

Some of these attorneys also go overboard, get careless, and say things based on inaccurate or insufficient legal analysis, and get called on the carpet for it.

Even if you're working on deals that are custom made for a financial, regulatory and/or tax play, some aspects of these deals are customary. People also make analogies to other types of deals where something is or isn't customary.

Attention Texans

I was sent this link about people in your state. I know this because of the lone star flag at the top. Kinda clever, not bad - it's a joke site with bizarre links to porn and a place called Microsuck if you click on certain pictures.

eh, check it out.

Okay, so I was up late tonight defreggin my computer (for lack of a better euphemism), and, because I am a multitasker who leads an active lifestyle, decided to channel surf while doing so. In my exercise, I ran across a program called "Shock Video" on HBO. Shock Video is apparently HBO's new name for its Real Sex series, the program designed by the porn industry to convince everyone that sex on film is better left to the professionals.

Anyway, I had almost had my fill of hairy-pitted Swiss fraus lifting books with their boobs and was about to catch another wave for a GGW infomercial when, lo and behold, they showed a piece (tee hee) on a naked soccer match between the women of Italy and Brazil.

It was, shall we say, anticlimactic. Though played indoors with what looked to be a tarp for turf, Slave's excellent suggestion of baby oil was ignored. The Italian atheletes looked as if they had never heard of Dr. Atkins, while the Brazilians were not sufficiently Brazilianed. Nevertheless, it was a victory for the bush leagues, and Brazil won, 7-1. Must have been the quick pitch.

Having viewed this, I must cast my lot with Anne. Come for the Brandi, but stay for the Hamm.

You'd have to be crazy to pick him over me. Just look at the stats. Sure he's a solid Fashion Board poster, but I'm coming on. I think i match up pretty well here, and this isn't even my sock's main home. you know I'm a Politics board sock, and everyone there loves, respects or fears me, depending.
I'm the more well-rounded, complete sock. If you look for someone who works both boards, I'm probably one of the top 5.
so don't make a dumb mistake....

Plus, how many poems has he written you?

Of course (or I'd waste even more time than I do reinventing the wheel). But analogies do not constitute binding precedent, so some guy bellowing "never in my years of practice have I seen something like this suggested much less conceded it" just comes off as unimaginative (and probably out of date). You just want to ask "so, do you have any issues with the substance of the provision, or do you just not understand it because it isn't in your form book?"

Biggest asshole lawyers I've dealt with so far were in Dublin (multiple firms, multiple practice areas). Go figure. Charlotte NC is up there in the asshole quotient, in my experience, as is LA - but I've only dealt with the big LA firms, really, and big firms just breed & protect assholes more than midsize or smaller firms.

Surprisingly (to me), the most incompetent lawyers I've dealt with have been in London - but it has just been one (big) firm repeatedly demonstrating incompetence. I've dealt with a bunch of night-school Staten Island solo-prac ESL lawyers who do better than those guys.

Dublin, Ireland? I've never met anyone from Ireland who's that much of an asshole, certainly not compared to the NYC average. Lawyer or not. Especially the women in Ireland. If it weren't for their teeth, hell, the whole country might be hot.

I don't deal much with LA lawyers, but all the Charlotee people seem quite nice to me.

My list of biggest asshole lawyer locations, in decreasing assholeness:

1. NYC, although maybe it's just by sheer number, not rate
2. [random medium size markets where they have a big chip on their shoulder about not being a bigger market; think St. Louis, Portland, Minneapolis]
3. D.C.
4. [random foreign cities where U.S. lawyers practice; think London, Paris, Frankfurt, etc.; what, did you assholes all leave the U.S. because everyone hated you here?]
5. Boston

Generally, I find smaller markets to be kinder and easier to work with, as long as you don't treat them like bumpkins and explain the stuff that needs to be explained. In my case, it needs to be explained not because these guys are dumb or anything, but because they don't do the volume of these kinds of transactions that I do. But, except for a few medium markets, I've been pretty happy with my dealings with markets smaller than mine.

L Word report

Ok, so I saw the L Word in a room full of about 20 lesbians, and the overall response was it was pretty good.

It wasn't as cheesy as I thought it would be, it moved along pretty well, and there were some pretty funny moments.

The sex wasn't particularly explicit (thank God for small favors) nor was it done in such a way as to make us go, "oh come on we never do that," as frequently happens when watching porn's idea of lesbian sex.

So, all in all, a promising start.

Showtime has a free preview in my neck of the woods starting tomorrow, so if you want to see it before you decide to subscribe, check and see if you have the free preview. They will be rerunning it at least once or twice during the week.

Sounds like a good party. How was the series?
