Si. Sincere with a dash of hyperbole.
The Flower knows. There was really no reason for my prior elaboration. He is omniscient.*

... as I hum Highway to Hell.
We're thick on self-righteousness, thin on brains. Everybody's got a moral high horse and no one's thought logically about progressing as a tolerant, malleable mass of people that a republic like ours should be. The whole idea behind this nation was tolerance, but now everybody who's tolerant is branded a moral reprobate. The guy who argues for logic over values is decried as a "moral relativist." If Franklin were alive, he'd be ill.
Sorry, when you take any text, belief or value - religious or otherwise - so seriously that it effects what you wear and causes you to get upset when others don't follow your rigid values, you are provincial.

ok. while I generally agree with the sentiment (Puritanical people are not fun people to be around), I note that Puritans have been around for quite a while in this country. Some would say they even founded this whole USA thing. That and taking all that land from the natives.

Ah, the good old days. Back in the olden days, the country was overrun with people dripping with jewelry who drank like fish and danced until dawn every damn night. That's how that prohibition amendment thingy got passed. Yeah, I know, a lot of people flouted it -- but in order for it to be passed, there had to have been a lot of support for the "no alcohol" rule.
All that to say, you sound like some farty old man sitting in a rocking chair on the porch, whittling. Knock it off.
And Hank, thanks SO much, now I crave bacon. And having said that, now that Crave jingle is runnign through my head (my kitty cat craves chicken, my kitty cat craves milk . . .)

Dear Flower,
Whoa [said in a keanu-like way]. Can you start translating your own posts for me, too? It would really help. Thanks so much.

Well, at least you've figured out that my ideal time to live in this country would be the 1920s. Scott Fitzgerald had some fun.
And I've significantly decreased my meat consumption so I've become less farty.

I'm sure your new cabbage n' beans diet has no farty side effects. Might want to check with Sequels on that one.
Yeah, you'd've been hanging out with F. Scott if you were living in the 20s. I see you more in some little farming town that is so conservative, it is STILL dry.
And you are sitting in a rocking chair on a porch, farting and lamenting how much better things were in the olden days.

Doughnuts and Dr. Feelgood. Elvis took more pills than William Rehnquist and Rush Limbaugh combined. But he did have a shiny gold-colored DEA badge from his pal Dick Nixon.

This issue is simple... Some folks don't have strong belief systems. I'm one of them. I just do what I do and accomodate others. Seems fair and its an easy comprimise which always keeps the peace. HOWEVER, there are these other people who feel strongly about certain things, and they don't comprimise. They "break the peace" so to say, for their own selfish reasons. They complicate everything, and that's annoying. I tolerate them (and it takes tremendoud tongue biting), so I don't understand why they won't tolerate me.
|
Have you been out with non-drinkers who griped about your drinking at dinner? (Unless of course you expect them to pay for the booze by splitting the bill evenly; that is fair cause for griping.) I've never experienced that.
The only vegetarian who's ever berated me for eating meat was Paigow.
This is not to say there are not issues where people on both ends of religious and political belief want to force everyone to accept things their way, such abortion, homosexuality and religious expression in public. I just haven't experienced a lot of it with the smaller issues like food and drink.

Good god. You sound much more bitter than me. Have a drink for buddha's sake.
Of course I'd have been hanging out with him - only outsiders call him F Scott. Guess we won't be seeing you at Zelda's next crazy party. They're usually pretty insane.

OK fine, but do I sound femininely bitter or masculinely bitter?
And I don't know who you have been partying with, but I think the Fitzgeralds are kinda you know like dead or something.

Don't lay all the intolerance at the doors of the religious. There is plenty to go around. For every idiot Alabama judge who decides to plop a big-ass granite 10 Commandments in the courthouse rotunda, there is someone else who tells a school teacher she can't wear her cross necklace to school, says the Muslim girls can't wear their head coverings to school, decides NYC schools can have displays of menorahs and Ramadan stuff but not creches, and decides that giving equal access to public meeting space to religious groups violates the First Amendment.
