Agreed. According to news reports this morning, the holder of those seats will forfeit their season tickets. Heh, moves me one spot up on the waiting list.

What surprises me is that I haven't heard one person from Francona on up in the Sox organization come out and say that the kind of behavior exhibited by that fan is completely unacceptable. Francona's "I don't know...I don't know...It didn't look malicious...I don't know" is fucking bullshit. He might as well be saying, "See what you can get away with next time."
TM
Agreed. Francona's sound bite was embarassing. Francona in general doesn't impress me. He's not a leader in the way that Torre is. We were all so hopeful a few years ago, hoping that George would get tired of Joe so he could come to Boston.

My favorite activity (and the missus' favorite pastime) while watching TAR is doing a running commentary in Gretchen's voice. It's mostly a repetition of "What?" "Where am I?" "Meredith?" "Oh no." "Who am I?" "Huh?" over and over again while she stumbles around. Like when the task was to look in a bunch of boxes for an envelope, and she is just walking up and down the aisles of boxes, not opening any, mumbling "Oh no, what do I do?". Er, maybe look inside the boxes like you were told? God I love her.

2. If Jermaine O'Neal pushed the fat guy out of the way to get to the locker room, he's not suspended. I thought some of the Red sox did say Sheffield had great restraint.

Conf. to T. now you can see why its so tough to argue with Ty on Politics- his people are never wrong, even a little bit.

Yeah, if it were just a push or he was trying to clear space. The clips I saw looked more like he threw an open-palm jab at the guy's throat/face and the guy just happened to have pulled back enough not to get hit.

I know I'm going to sound like an ingrate, but fuck it. I'm sick of Torre. He's been great, no question. And he takes so much pressure off our guys, but he is not right for this team.

When we signed guys who would be good for the type of team we had in '96, he was perfect. Now that we have only a handful left, he needs to change his approach. We need someone like Pinella, who will get in A-Fraud's face and question his manhood when he commits game-losing errors and strands 136 baserunners against the Sox -- especially after they spend the offseason telling him he's not a real Yankee and he's a bad father. I fucking hate A-Rod. Biggest fraud in the history of the game, but I digress.

Torre's hands are somewhat tied because of all the big hitters we have, but jesus. Make A-Rod bunt. Let's move the runners over. Hit and run. Sacrifice. I don't care how many RBIs you had two years ago. This is what this team is about. This is what winning is about. We stand around, waiting for a three-run homer. If we don't get it, we lose. Only Jeter and Matsui are playing Yankee baseball. And Torre needs to assert himself. Because this style of play ain't working.

Some of the players did. And good for them. I'm talking about Francona and the organization. It is their responsibility above all others to send the message that that kind of behavior won't be tolerated.

Everyone saw the same clips. You just don't know what a jab is. He pushed the guy and he did it mostly with his glove. It was a reaction. He was completely justified. "Open-palm jab?"

Lighten up, Francis. It's not like someone hit him with a flare or anything.

Usually it's bilmore putting stupid words in my mouth over there, though Hank does it too sometimes. I said that the fan "deserved to be tossed out" for trying to interfere with play, that he "came too close to Sheffield's face," and that Sheffield "understandably took exception."

When you're inside the wall and the ball is on the ground, you can't see it. I think the guy reached over in the hopes that he could catch it, maybe if it bounced up. I suspect he wasn't watching Sheffield, but the ball. Varitek hit a rope. And it just didn't look to me like he was taking a swing a Sheffield. Then again, I was 3,000 miles away.

No.

By the way, can you imagine the intensity on the field during Sox/Yankees if Piniella was our manager? I can tell you that our guys wouldn't keep getting hit without some retaliation. That's for sure.

Torre downplays the rivalry. Piniella would fuel it.

Oh for christ's sake, you petulant, arrogant motherfucker, I know what a jab is. Once he had the ball in his hand, he had the whole field into which he could take a quick step before he threw the ball. That's certainly faster than pushing/jabbing/whatever at some guy. He obviously didn't completely lose it and haul off and punch the guy before he threw the ball, but it looked to me like might have if he didn't have getting rid of the ball on his mind.

What he did do was, with his hands together and without making a fist, push vigorously towards the guy's face/neck/chin area. He didn't really connect very much, but it looked to me like he was retaliating and trying to do so; he just was lucky that the fan was backing up. It was a straight-on, direct offensive move; that's what a jab is. I don't think that it was unwarranted or beyond a reasonable response to that situation, but don't try to claim that wasn't a little bit of malice in his action towards that guy. He was trying, some half-heartedly (probably as the Artest brawl and consequences flashed through his head), to clock the guy. It's not like he hasn't demonstrated this kind of lack of restraint in the past.

Anyway, if that guy or the guy who he got his seats is losing his season tickets, that's a sufficient punishment. Can you imagine having someone give you some great seats for the night and then permanently losing that guy his season tickets?

I just think the way you fill in for people's motivation varies dependant on whether they're on your side, or not.

While the fan was typical of the masshole nation here in Boston, there is still nobody worse than the Yank-offs and their fatassed owner and loudmouth fans.

Now that the Curse of the bambino is finally dead, my one great hope is that the "Curse of Hillary" is in full force and effect. Think about it, since Hillary, another full figured person-like the babe, won a Senate seat, the Yank-offs have not won a World Series. Yo go girl!
