With great care.

You are really removing the thighs and legs, which is a little easier to do without ruining the bird -- just find the right place to cut, and make a firm cut right thru. A pair of poultry shears would help a lot. I didn't have that, so I used tongs and a long knife instead.

Since no one else has answered your question, I'll throw in my 2 pennies. I have a DLC-8 which I've had so long that I bought a replacement blade a few years ago since the old was so dull.

What I find most irritating about the workbowl design really about cleaning. It has all those ridges in the feed tube (which doesn't come apart) where food particles get stuck and are virtually unreachable.

The only thing I know about the new food processors (gleaned from a "non-commercial" on a PBS show) is that the blade locks in so you can pour out the bowl without the blade falling out. I would guess that also means it doesn't leak around the blade when the bowl is filled with liquid, as mine does.

I took a quick peek at the Amazon ratings and the "Most Favorable" review headline is "I like it a lot, but not in love."

Doesn't seem like it's worth almost double the money. I hadn't looked at the prices in a while and I am frankly surprised at how relatively inexpensive a Cuisinart is. I think it costs around the same number of dollars for a "classic" as mine cost when it was acquired many years ago.

ETA that some person with even more time on their hands completed a very detailed comparison review on the Amazon site. Link.

Good Lord, More on the Slow Cooker Theme

So I'll go ahead and admit that I'm getting sort of annoyed. If you will recall, we got a 4 quart slow cooker. I got a cookbook that I liked, but for the fact that many of the recipes call for a larger cooker (5-6 quart). So I got the slow cooker for two cookbook that someone here recommended and it came today. Flipping through, I realize it contains only recipes for 1.5-3 quart cookers. I had no idea that it would be such a struggle to find recipes that are meant for the size slow cooker that I have. Where do you people find slow cooker recipes? Any resources that break down the recipes by cooker size?

This is enough to convince me that fucking is always the correct choice.

is 5.3 required to make enough food for two? if not then multiply everything in a recipe by .75.

do not worry about accurately putting in .67 tsps- guesstimate. and (guesstimate is a word? no redlining?) then fine tune the amounts as you make your favorite dishes time and time again over the next 40 years.

remember- cooking is a journey not a destination, and you will grow with each step, backwards as well as forward. I won the Betty Crocker award at my high school so I know of what I speak.





or sell the 4 quart at your next garage sale and buy a 6 quart.

I am fine with changing recipe sizes to fit the pot EXCEPT for the fact that I can't seem to figure out how it changes the cooking time and everything we've made so far has been done way, way before it was supposed to be done. No one here seemed to have an idea as to how to fix that issue other than to keep checking stuff a lot. If I had to classify my current relationship status with my slow cooker I would say It's Complicated. I don't want a huge cooker. I live in a freaking one bedroom apartment with no storage in the 'hood. I'm just tryin' to stay alive here, man. I don't need any It's Complicated.

you can't overcook in a slow cooker, I thought.

do this- on days you're using it, go pick up fringey. have her taste the dish every 15 minutes after it's cooked for a few hours. if she senses it's done, she unplugs until you get home. win-win?

What are you cooking that you need a precise recipe? Surely you can take the suggested ingredients and eyeball how much of everything you need. Do you ever cook without a recipe?

I'm sick of you. All I typically do is cook without a recipe. Proportions are not my problem here. I'm trying to broaden my horizons with this whole making things in a slow cooker process, but thus far figuring out cooking times has been a royal pain in the ass. Almost worse than you.

The pork we made was overcooked and I first checked it about an hour before the minimum cooking time. The meatloaf was 180 degrees all the way through by the time I checked it about 90 minutes before the minimum cooking time, but still tasted great and was super tender. Both recipes were for 5-6 qt pots. I don't mind experimenting, but I'm really not a fan of overcooked meat. Answers. I just want answers. If the answer is that I need to continually test the meat basically at all times after starting the slow cooker, well that seems to do away with all the convenience factor of using one.
