So, I was channel-surfing last night, and my run through the HBOs/Showtimes/Starz numbers stopped abruptly when I saw Scarlett Johanssons's panty-covered ass.
I was reminded that, in addition to the eye-candy at the beginning, Lost in Translation really is a wonderfully sad and delightful movie. And that Scarlett really is a fine actress.
And I was left wondering how Sofia Coppola could go from writing this flick, and coaxing such a fine and restrained performance of middle aged angst and alienation from Bill Murray, to shooting Kirsten Dunst as Marie Antoinette trying on Manolos while "I Want Candy" plays in the background.
|
Thankfully, I have not seen the Marie Antoinette one. But getting middle aged angst and alientation from Bill Murray isn't as hard as it is cracked up to be, I dont' think. It is basically all he has done since Rushmore.
While it is always dissappointing when you see an artist go from great performance to utter crap, but it seems to happen to all of them eventually. Perhaps film making is harder than it looks or something.

I really liked Strange & Norell. I was sad when it ended. Ms. Slothrop gave me the new book of stories for Xmas, but I haven't opened it yet. The reviews were not the most favorable, so I'm not sure I would have picked it up, but don't tell her that.

NFH isn't fat. I am. And I would suspect you are like molly ringwald (I think it was molly ringwald) in the breakfast club, skinny but with a fat chick inside just screaming to burst out when vigilance drops.

Claire is a fat girl's name.
Damn, that's a great movie. I should watch it again.

I thought that it was subtle in this movie; that's why I said that I was impressed that Sofia coaxed a restrained performance of it out of Bill in this flick, especially at the beginning (before he starts talking to Scarlett).

I love those John Huges movies. And Pretty in Pink. And Sixteen Candles. I think I love Sixteen Candles the best.
Molly Ringwald fled to France to escape typecasting from those movies...

Perhaps you should follow her lead then.

Excuse me, but "proactive" and "paradigm"? Aren't these just buzzwords that dumb people use to sound important? Not that I'm accusing you of anything like that.

I thought he was excellent in National Lampoon's Class Reunion.

I liked it too. But it was exhausting. When I linked to the new stories, I saw some of the reviews and decided it didn't need to go on my (ever growing) wish list.

More shit on Brit
So here's a pic of Brit being driven to "an appointment."
It should have been to a nail salon. But she seems a tiny bit overdressed to be going to a nail salon.

I wouldn't say that's overdressed for a nail salon.

It looks like a dress. If she is going to a nail salon, I would hope for the sake of the person doing her pedicure that she is wearing panties.
On the other hand, if she's going to one of those cheap places that also offers waxing and where everyone does everything (probably in total violation of all state health department regulations), it may give the pedicurist an opportunity for a waxing upsell.

It looks like one of the ubiquitous camisole tops (or whatever they are called) but maybe my screen resolution is off . . .
She seemed pretty tiddy in the pics I've seen, but I wasn't looking that closely and I have probably not seen all of them.

One giant, creepy elephant.
