A combination of procrastination, cheesy poofs, and Spike TV lead to deep thoughts.

Oh, and I had a problem with the whole willing suspension of disbelief thingy with Denise Richards as a nuclear physicist. That one ain't the fault of the cheesy poofs, though.
Is it me or is Denise sporting an unusually large helmet? I think she's very hot, but her head appears to be too big for her body.

The Brosnan Bond movies are bad. Pierce is a good Bond, but the scripts are silly and over the top. And the franchise needs some nudity.

Hipster-Music -- A Question

That said, I think "Get your hands off my woman motherfucker," repeated 50 times, is kinda catchy.
I've almost bought the disc three or four times, then I think "What the fuck am I doing?" I think they're a one disc gimic band - not as much of a joke as Spinal Tap, but not serious either. Regardless, some of the hooks in their shit are infectious. If only the guy's voice wasn't so purposefully awful.

Well, to the surprise of no one, Leah "Labelle" was sent home tonight. In her final performance, she actually loosened up a little and sounded better than she had for quite a while. I still think she deserved to be sent home, though.

The big surprise was that Jennifer Hudson was in the bottom three. Maybe America remembers too well her bad eyeliner and scary outfits? Because certainly vocally she's in the top half of the final 12.

The group number and the cheesy videos showed more of the contestants, which was good for some and bad for others.

Agreed. She deserved to go, and she knew it. I didn't think her performance last night was impressive, either.

I was surprised, too. Camille or Matt could have easily made that group instead, but I still believe that she is disturbing to watch. The facial expressions - ugh.

By the way, is Matt the new Josh the Marine of this competition? I hate to think he's going to hang around far past what his talent should allow, but I suspect it might happen.

Thankfully, I deliberately avoided most of the continuous commercial bullshit and just caught the final voting because Survivor was on. Anyone still watching besides me? It's been good this year, but Ethan got hosed. I almost thought he'd turn the tables on Jerry, since Shii Ann can't stand her. I did think it was good that Lex was man enough to tell him before the vote though.

They only have the second best darkness band name. I definitely agree some of it is infectious, but I am passing thus far.

Speaking of hipsters, we're in the midst of SXSW, so Austin is crawling with industry folk and bands. Lots of black tshirts, lots of tats and piercings. So far, no music is compelling enough to make me want to fight the crowds.

Aren't you going to recommend a specific book for each of us? If you're going to criticize, go all the way, man.

My friends who loved hair bands in the 80s (definitely not me) and loved Spinal Tap are pretty into them. They are seeing them in Dallas sometime in the next month. And they do think they have the Spinal Tap thing going.

None of it is my thing, so I'll be out drinking sangria or something while they watch.

I read an article about SXSW this year that said it has the biggest rap/hip hop presence (including some big national names) this year of all years so far. True?

True.

They actually had a hip hop showcase as opposed to like only the BEP playing. Of the 1200 bands, that's extremely puny.

True, including a contingent from the Minneapolis-based Rhymesayers hip hop crew that . . . yes, there is hip hop in Minneapolis . . . no, seriously . . . good shit . . . stop laughing . . .

Speaking of Minneapolis hip hop, Atmosphere, the head of the Rhymesayers crew, was in Spin magazine yet again this month, making it like 5 issues in a row, or close to that anyway.

BIG UP TO MINNEAPOLIS HIP HOP!

Thoughts from Ricky Gervais

"I get things slightly wrong. For example, about Nelson Mandela: incarcerated for a quarter of a century, released in about 1990. So he's been out for about 14 years and he hasn't reoffended ... It shows you prison does work."

Mtv Reality Shows Dream about seeing Joe Hill

Podunkville is a non-union town, and people and business have been fleeing to the suburbs for, oh, the last 50 years or so. Personally, I think that it has something to do with yards and grass. But I could be wrong.

As to the original post (about MTV pulling out of Philly because the Real World house got picketed for using non-union labor), the AFL-CIO should have picketed because it's a stupid show. Why don't you people read a fricken book or something.
